Mrs Fidock's news update

Firstly, well done to all our Year 6's and Year 2's. They have worked their socks off over the last week to complete their SATs and we are so proud of their resilience and determination. Sitting next to one child this week, he took a deep breath and whispered 'I can do this!' which says it all. I'd also like to thank all the staff who have supported SATs either through being a reader, prompt or releasing their TA to help - this is a team effort.  Year 2 have some more to go, but we are right behind them.

We have also hosted another Headteacher who has been looking at the PYP for their school - she was inspired by the confidence of the children to talk about their learning and was blown away by the quality of work produced.

Our footballers also had a good week - and won against St. Johns, well done to the whole team.

We've had 2 classes in Year 4 go to Bewl Water this week - which they thoroughly enjoyed, the rest will go on Monday. Our Year 2's had a fabulous visit to the Riverhill Himalayan Garden and our EYFS will be off to Hemsley Conservation Centre next week, with Year 1 to Hever Castle the following week. These visits allow us to provide excellent experiences to our children which they can bring back to school and apply to their learning, so thank you for your support with these.

Next week we are having an 'Awareness Week' this is when the children will support a number of causes (no money being collected) to show their awareness. On Wednesday please wear something blue and green with your uniform to support Mollie, on Thursday please wear something green with your uniform to support Mental Health week and the children will also be learning about Cleft lip/palette in an assembly by Mrs Reedman and Mrs Penning, who both have daughters with this condition.  We will also be sharing information about Autism (ASD).

This week we are really proud of...

Early Years

All of the children in Early Years have been working hard to improve their team work, listening and organisational skills. They put this to good use this week by creating their own outdoor shelters.  We are so proud of you Early Years, keep up the good work, you make a super team.

Henry 3TL

Henry in 3TL took part in a rugby tournament in Minehead recently.  He plays for Tunbridge Wells RFC. 1500 children from across the UK took part and Henry participated in 6 matches over the weekend.  He had a fantastic time. Well done Henry, we are very proud of you!

Office Messages

If you are driving on site please observe the speed limit. There have been a couple of instances where our pedestrians (adults and children) have been put in danger.

Please also be considerate of our neighbours by thinking about where you are parking on the streets around the school. We are receiving complaints of people's driveways being blocked and dangerous parking. An incident this week has been reported to KCC and the police as damage was caused to a neighbours vehicle due to dangerous parking.

author of the month -

gill lewis

Gill Lewis is our Author of the Month for May.  There is a display along with a collection of her books in our school library. Have you read any of these?

About Gill Lewis -

'For as long as I can remember I have been fascinated with animals.  I grew up on the outskirts of the city of Bath in an ordinary house, with an extraordinary garden. The far end was allowed to grow wild, a tangle of nettles and brambles around gnarled apple trees.  It was there I discovered slow worms and newts, and butterflies and beetles.  I even had a hospital for small animals and insects in my back garden!

When I grew up, I became a vet and my work took me from the wilds of Africa to the frozen lands of the Arctic...

I rediscovered children's books by reading to my own children.  I loved picture books and the way words and pictures interact to tell a story.  I loved novels for older children, entering new worlds created by authors and following the adventures of their characters.  I couldn't help dreaming up my own stories too, and find that my route into storytelling is often through sketching the characters and scenes from my stories before I start writing them.'
