Mrs Fidock's news update
Despite our wave of Covid, we have had another successful week. All year groups have been working on assessments to inform Teacher Assessment for later this term which we will also share with you at Parents Evening. We have repeated the successful mix of face-to-face and virtual parents evenings and we will keep to the same format, EYFS - Year 3 in the large hall and Year 4 - Year 6 in the small hall and we will keep everyone to time. This will allow all parents to use the format that they prefer and works for them. Please make sure you sign up to avoid delay.
This week has been Careers Week, where we have shared with children different career options and what they might like to consider. Today, EYFS dressed up as someone they would like to be when they are older - we've loved looking at what they have chosen and it's been wonderful to see their ambition including: Doctors, Nurses, Footballers, Pilots, Teachers, Policeofficers, Astronauts, Builders and many more! We've also had Bikeability taking place this week and the children have responded brilliantly to this and enjoyed their sessions. It's lovely to know that our children are out on the road safely and using their new knowledge.
Calling all parents who might want to be Year Group Rep...so far we have only had 3 wonderful volunteers...and we need more! If you are interested, please complete the form. https://forms.gle/AWfpA3ecUAMpQgtr8
Have a wonderful weekend and thank you for your on-going support.

This week we are really proud of...
Wilf 3Be
Wilf competed in his first tetrathlon (a multi sport event of running, swimming, bean bag throwing for his age, moving to shooting air pistols when he's 8 and show jumping) of the season for his Pony Club this weekend. He did brilliantly to come a fantastic 4th out of 20 competitors. All of his hard work at XC club paid off and he won Best Run for his age group and he got PBs for his ride, his run and his swim.
He works very hard on his riding and as you can see in the photo, his pony isn't always well behaved!! Well done Wilf, we are so proud of you.
Matthew 4T
Matthew has moved into Stage 5 for his swimming lessons and is now swimming lengths - he managed 11 lengths in his first lesson. Well done Matthew!
ORLA 6C
An early morning start to Hastings Musical Festival on Monday was rewarded when Orla came 3rd in her National section doing a Serbian dance! She had some tough competition.
What a super result and I'm not sure I'd like to dance in those shoes! Well done Orla, we are really proud of you and we think your costume is fabulous.
poppy 1P
Poppy was brought horse riding lessons for Christmas, and after a very nervous start she overcame her nerves and learnt how to hold the reins correctly and was able to steer 'Harry Potter', her pony. She was even brave enough to master a trott within a class of 6 other riders. Mum is very proud and looking forward to the next time. We are proud of you too Poppy, well done!
Curriculum corner
Each week we want to give you ideas to enable you to support your child at home with a particular aspect of the curriculum. Our subject leaders will be sharing hints and tips to help you along the way and will be offering further ideas and resources that you might like to access at home. This week our focus is.... Assessment.
This video explains Solo Taxonomy using the analogy of Lego.
Assessment @ PWPA
We use a range of assessments to check on children's learning:
Low Stakes Testing: quick quiz, check-in questions, hands-up, show-me on the white board
Conferencing with the children allows us to discuss learning with them, use probing questions and give them in the moment feedback.
Formal testing that we do with children at the end of each term (Module) and prepares them for SATs. Unit assessments/range of questions covered.
Questioning in class allows us to check on learning and then take children to the next step.
Challenge questions allows us to set the children challenges linked to their learning to assess their conceptual understanding. We use something called Solo Taxonomy to do this. Challenges are set for ALL children to deepen their understanding from their given starting points.
