Mrs early's news update

Despite the hot weather, children have continued to settle well into their classes this week and I have been really impressed with their excellent behaviour and their attitudes to learning. Children in Early Years have also settled extremely well and are already becoming familiar with their everyday routines.

I have also seen children taking on responsibilities such as putting away class chrome books and showing kindness to others around them. Already children are showing the school value of ‘respect’ which is a particular focus this module.

On 28th September the PTA will be holding their AGM at 6.30 p.m. in the school hall. Everyone is welcome to attend and it will be lovely to see parents come along and get involved. The PTA is very successful at raising funds for the school and are already planning exciting events for the year ahead.

Last weekend I enjoyed attending the Paddock Wood Community Centre opening where I met many members of the Paddock Wood community as well as Mrs Brooks (Principal at Mascalls). I am the one on the left of the picture and Mrs Brooks is on the right !  The new Paddock Wood Community Centre is an impressive new building with many facilities and will be at the hub of different community groups meeting together. As a school we really want to get involved with our community and we are looking forward to joining in with future community events. Our first involvement will be on Friday 29th September where we would like children to bring in a cake donation for the Macmillan coffee morning that is taking place at the Community Centre.  It will also be an own clothes day that day to celebrate the European Day of Languages where children can wear the colours of a European flag of their choice.

Enjoy the sunshine this weekend and thank you for making me feel so welcome here at Paddock Wood already. Please feel free to come and say hello to me when you see me on one of the gates in the mornings before school. I also hope all the Year 6 pupils who took the Kent Tests this week have a well deserved rest.

home/school communication

Please be reminded that it is difficult for teachers to spend time talking to parents at the classroom doors before school and it is important for them to focus on greeting the children. If you have any particular queries or concerns that you would like the Class teacher to be aware of, then please use the private messaging function on Google Classroom going forward. I am aware that there have been some delays in a few classes with Google logins but hopefully this will be rectified soon.  Thank you for your patience with this.

guitar lessons

starting on Thursday 14th September 2023

Please text 07908 736247 if you want your child to start playing guitar, there are

three spaces available with me for the Autumn Term.

My song-based guitar lessons at Paddock Wood Academy take place on

Thursday lunch-times and during the school afternoon.

The half-hour solo classes cost £18.50 and are invoiced each five-weeks,

so the fee is £92.50 which will cover up to the end of term one on 12th October.

It is usually best to wait until year three before starting to play the guitar as

constant forceful finger-squeezing on the spaces betwen the frets

is needed to achieve good notes and chords.

For the same reason, please don’t buy a steel-string guitar for your child, they

are harder to play than nylon-strung classical guitars (3/4 size is usually best).

There are usually spare school guitars to borrow for a few weeks

before you buy your own, so don’t spend any money until your charge is

enjoying producing a good sound at home. This requires each child giving up

what they usually do at home at least twice a week to work on the piece I send

by e-mail or WhatsApp to the parents/carers, so that within a year the pupil

wants to perform to others because their favourite song is flowing so well.

Parents are encouraged to pop in by arrangement, so they can learn how to

best support music making at home, I suggest a minimum of two

ten-minute practices each week; one to remember the homework and one for

the joy you get from doing something challenging really well.

PTA AGM

Come along to Paddock Wood Primary PTA’s Annual General Meeting!

We are holding our AGM on Thursday 28th September 6.30pm in the Small Hall at the school – everyone is welcome to attend.

You can hear about what we have achieved over the last year, what things we have planned and we would love to hear any ideas that you have too. There is no obligation to join the Committee, although we would love it if you did as the more people we have the more fun things we can put on!
