Mrs Fidock's news update
Everyone had a transition session this week, including our current Year 6's with their secondary schools - you always forget how much children grow up during the year, until you see the new EYFS children to remind you! This week Year 6 visited The Globe Theatre in London and I was lucky enough to tag along. We had a tour of The Globe and then the children took part in a Macbeth drama workshop - the play they studied earlier in the term. It was wonderful to hear how much the children could explain of the play and the number of lines they could quote, demonstrating a secure understanding of the plot line and some of the Shakespearean language. As we hurtle towards the end of the academic year we look forward to sharing with you just some of the learning that has taken place and reports will give you further information when they are released via MCAS next Friday (14th July). Today is the LAT Primary Sports Day and we have taken a team to Dartford for the competition - we hope to bring back some first places...but watch this space.
Mrs Early is visiting the school today as part of the handover. I know she would have met many of the children today either in assembly or as she walked around the school and she is keen to get to know the whole community over the coming months.

Curriculum corner
Each week we want to give you ideas to enable you to support your child at home with a particular aspect of the curriculum. Our subject leaders will be sharing hints and tips to help you along the way and will be offering further ideas and resources that you might like to access at home. This week our focus is....Reading
Reading at home
When your child joins Paddock Wood Primary Academy, we do ask you to commit to hearing your child read daily - or at least 3 times a week. Since Covid we have seen a drop off in reading at home, hence our Reading Suitcases and Reading Awards. Can we please ask that you try to hear your child read as much as possible. Regular reading increases the progress children make in this vital skill - which enables them to engage with the whole curriculum. Reading is the key skill that unlocks everything else. We have put together some hints and tips to help with reading and listening to your child read at home. We will also add this to the website.
Office Messages
Medicines - A reminder that we are only able to give prescribed medicine at school within the school day. Please try to limit the number of doses needed within the school day where possible. Doses due towards the end of the school day should be given at home. If you wish your child to have any other medicines you would need to arrange to come into school to administer this.
School start times - There is an increasing number of children arriving late to school. This is disruptive for the children already in class and for the late arrival. Sometimes delays are unavoidable but this should not be the norm. School starts at 8.45am. Please ensure your child is in school at this time ready to start the day's learning.
After School Club bookings - Please remember that if you wish your child to attend After School Club you must book in advance. Booking closes 24 hours before the session to enable staffing and catering to be finalised.
Thank you for your understanding.
Year 6 Exhibition
The children in Year 6 have all been working hard to develop their own inquiry into different careers this term. They are putting on an exhibition to showcase their wonderful work. We would like to invite the whole school community to drop in and see what the children have achieved.
