Mrs Fidock's news update

We had a whole-school review this week with some external visitors working alongside our senior and middle leaders. It was a thorough review which included lesson explorations, book looks, meetings with middle and senior leaders, previous questionnaires from both parents and pupils and pupil voice meetings. We are delighted with the feedback which identified the strengths of our teaching and learning, behaviour for learning and personal development as well as how well our curriculum is mapped and developed. Our children gave the best feedback which included:

How does your learning link together? Does learning build up?

  • Learner attributes link across subjects and link subjects, we learnt about fractions, we have moved on and it has helped us to learn next steps

  • We have been doing decimals - we started with tenths, then hundredths and thousandths and now we are using this to order, Example - we always talk about what we have learnt before and how it links to our current learning

  • English writing linked to our WW2 inquiry - we learnt things about WW2 that helped us write well.

  • We like the links to writing

Do you feel successful? How have you progressed?

  • Yes! (all)

  • We have progressed in how our work looks and is presented

  • We have progressed in our creativity and how deeply you are thinking about the inquiry

  • I have progressed in my handwriting and presentation

  • We are thinking about it much more, more research and thinking about things more deeply

And finally...

  • I love how our inquiries are creative and so much fun.

  • Our inquiry walls show the best work people have done - celebrate and magpie

  • I like the subjects and how we express our ideas and how we use the learner attributes

These reviews are a chance for us to see how we are doing against our own Academy Action Plan and what we need to do in the future. Our next plan will be written by the end of this year and we will share a summary of this with you, once this has been agreed with our Governors and the Central Trust Team.

The rest of this week included lots of singing and dancing with the children getting ready for our Jubilee Celebrations next Friday. We also met with the Bereko Community Partnership to discuss how we can develop our joint working with the schools in Bereko in Tanzania - more information to follow.

Year 2 continued with their Secret Agent Testing (SATs) this week and have worked really hard to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding.

We hope you've had a lovely week and the weekend continues to be sunny! See you next week.

Year 1's Trip to Hever Castle

This week all Year 1 classes went to Hever Castle. It was a great success. The children loved looking around the castle and learning all about Anne Boleyn, getting lost in the maze and exploring the play area. Fun was had by all and the children were fantastic ambassadors for the school.

This links to the unit of inquiry in Year 1 this term: Over time, shelters and travel have adapted to suit a range of needs.

Lost property

We seem to have accumulated a ridiculous amount of coats, tops, trousers, bags, hats...the list goes on... in our lost property so we will be putting all of this out for parents to have a look through at the picnic at the end of term. Weather dependent this will be outside the office.

If your child has lost any articles of clothing at school, please do come by and have a look through and take what is yours. Can we also remind you to name all your children's clothing so that it can be returned to them!

PE days

Can we please remind parents that PE days are days where children should be dressed in their house t-shirt with a pair of plain blue/black tracksuit trousers/leggings or shorts/skorts. Their usual academy logo jumper/cardigan should be worn on top.

We are seeing an increasing number of children in a variety of coloured and patterned tracksuit trousers and hooded tops with loud pictures and labels that are not appropriate for school.
