Dear Parents and Carers,
Whilst the weather has been somewhat wet and miserable this week, the learning across the Academy has been bright and buzzing. I was proud to hand out so many certificates in Celebration Assembly this morning which highlighted collaborative and ambitious learning. From recounts about Charles Darwin and the adventures of the Beagle to interactive Florence Nightingale workshops, the learning has been diverse and children have been so keen to conference and share their achievements.
Please be mindful that children need to be sent in with waterproof coats (as always labelled with their names) as we seem to be in the middle of a particularly wet spell.
I met with the fantastic PTA during the AGM this week and am excited about all of the upcoming events this academic year. A great deal of effort and dedication goes into planning a fun-filled calendar of events for our community and I can't wait to be involved. The PTA events are so successful and I would like to thank yourselves and our wider community for supporting fundraising wherever possible. The funds raised continue to support us to enrich the curriculum and environment at Leigh Academy Paddock Wood and the children benefit greatly from all of the support. We certainly couldn't do all that we do without such community support.
I would like to make you all aware of the Paddock Wood Remembrance Day procession on Remembrance Sunday, November 10th. Whilst this is not directly a school organised event (as you know), all families, children and staff are welcome. There will be a small number of school representatives who will read In Flanders Fields and bear the Poppy Wreath. The event begins from St Andrew's Church shortly after 10 am. Roads will be closed in the immediate area for the service so please be mindful of this. In the weeks leading up to Remembrance Day we will communicate with you all about purchasing poppies in school.
I hope you all have a fantastic weekend.
Yours sincerely,
Mr Moore
Our house captains completed their first duty helping the community centre run a coffee morning to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
We are looking forward to seeing them continue their work within the community and the school over the coming year.
This week we are really proud of...
Darcie was riding sidesaddle with her pony at a show last weekend and placed 2nd. She was very pleased with her result as she was the only junior in the class and was completing against the adults! Well done Darcie; what an achievement!
Wilf qualified and competed in a number of classes at a National Championship called Sunshine Tours last weekend at Hickstead showground. The highlight was coming 5th out of a huge class in a class called Eventer's Challenge which is a mixture of Showjumping and Cross Country fences.
If anyone has a pony and rides competitively, please contact the office as there is an equestrian team at Leigh Academy Paddock Wood.
Genevieve took part in her first solo competition at Aerial Arts Studio performing a routine she had choreographed herself. She did amazingly and we are all very proud of her!
Please can all parents supervise and be vigilant with their children when coming to school on bikes or scooters. We have had a few near misses recently on the playground and on the path/road where children are riding at high speed and not watching where they are going.
The safety of all our children is, as always, our main priority.
A polite reminder that only cars displaying a disabled badge (or have prior agreement from a member of SLT) are allowed to drive on and off site during the start and end of the school day.
We would also encourage all parents and children to use the main path as much as possible and allow the road to be a road.
The safety of all our children is, as always, our main priority.
