Muslim Cub Scouts can earn the Bismillah Religious Emblem through the National Islamic Committee on Scouting (NICS). The emblem encourages growth in Islamic knowledge and practice and supports family faith engagement. Muslims begin endeavors with “In the name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful” (Bismillah), which makes this a fitting first emblem for Cub Scouts.
What to Expect
The Bismillah program guides Cub Scouts in age-appropriate learning with close support from parents, an Imam, and religious school teachers who serve as counselors.
Scouts complete activities at home and at their mosque or Islamic center over several weeks. Program areas include:
Faith-based lessons: Holy Books, great prophets, prayers, and religious holidays
Family projects: Conversations and hands-on activities that reinforce Islamic living
Community connections: Learning about the mosque/Islamic center, Muslim heroes, and American Muslim heritage
Service: Practicing Islamic values and fulfilling religious obligations
Scouts keep a neat record of their work in a notebook. Regular attendance at religious school and practicing Islamic teachings are expected.
