Methodist Cub Scout Religious Emblems at Harvest
Cub Scouts at Harvest Methodist Church can grow in their faith by earning age-appropriate Religious Emblems through the P.R.A.Y. (Programs of Religious Activities with Youth) program. These emblems are designed to encourage spiritual growth, understanding of Christian faith and scripture, and deeper family engagement in faith.
What to Expect
Each P.R.A.Y. activity book is designed to guide your Cub Scout in exploring their faith in a way that’s both meaningful and age-appropriate. The program is interdenominational and supported by many denominations, including Methodists.
Your Scout will work through the book with a parent or guardian, completing activities at home over several weeks. Here’s what’s typically included:
Bible-Based Lessons – Age-appropriate stories, activities, and scripture-based teachings
Family Projects – Hands-on exercises designed to spark faith-centered conversations at home
Service Opportunities – Encouragement to live out faith through simple acts of kindness and responsibility
You don’t need to be an expert to support your Scout—just a willing guide and conversation partner. Most families complete the program at home over a few months, working about 30 minutes per week.
How the P.R.A.Y. Program Works
Each level of the P.R.A.Y. Religious Emblem program includes up to three workbooks, designed for different roles in the Scout’s spiritual journey:
Student Workbook – This is the main workbook your Scout will complete. It includes stories, lessons, Bible activities, and creative projects tailored to their grade level.
Mentor Workbook – This is for a parent or guardian. It offers guidance, tips, and prompts to help you support your Scout’s understanding and spiritual growth.
Counselor Workbook – This is used only if the program is being led by a church-appointed counselor, such as a minister or children’s leader. Most families won’t need this unless their church is formally guiding the process.
For most Cub Scout families, you only need the Student Workbook and Mentor Workbook. If your church is leading the program or offering a group class, they’ll let you know if a Counselor Workbook is needed. Otherwise, the program is fully parent-led and accessible without church involvement.
How to Get Started
To begin working on a Religious Emblem, purchase the appropriate activity book from either the Scout Shop or the Programs of Religious Activities with Youth (P.R.A.Y.). Once your Scout has completed the program, please contact Pastor Ben Lohmer to schedule a brief conversation with your Scout about what they learned. Pastor Ben is happy to support our Pack’s spiritual development and will ensure your Scout is recognized appropriately. Be sure to leave a voicemail if you call.
