The improvement of AI software has gone up drastically in the last few years and has been incorporated into many aspects of our lives, so much so that we fail to recognize just how much we already depend on it. From search engine algorithms, customer service, picture generation, and even the medical field, AI is being utilized to assist us with our tasks. There is one setting, however, that the use of AI is almost always restricted, and that setting is academics. The use of AI in education has been controversial to say the least, but AI is proving to be an excellent supplemental resource with the potential to boost academic success. The combination of human and AI notes could vastly increase the amount of content students are able to reinforce from their studies.
When researching the efficacy of AI's inclusion in education, we utilized these 3 programs to assist in our own comprehension of class material. Though there are still issues involving audio capture, these programs all did an excellent job summarizing the content and capturing the essential topics, some of which we missed ourselves. Click on the program to find out more about their specific services.
OtterAI has the capability of recognizing the specific voices of people, giving it the ability to differentiate who is speaking so that information not provided by the professor interferes with the program. Unlike the other programs, OtterAI provides a collaborative element in which students can work together to improve their understanding. During lectures, the AI generates the transcript and autocorrects any mistakes it may have made interpreting speech.
Jamworks allows students to utilize its app to indicate the importance of specified parts of a lecture. By clicking a button, the recording software flags the interval once you click again for the AI program to create a summary that targets that content. Jamworks also allows students to upload slides or video of the lecture to increase the AI's summary accuracy. On top of that, Jamworks provides AI generated quizzes for students who want to cement their understanding of a lecture's content.
NotebookLM is unique in that it generates an FAQ guide that provides answers to questions the AI believes are relevant to the content. It also provides a study guide for students to reinforce their knowledge. For those that wish to revisit the recording itself, NotebookLM provides a table of contents as well as a timeline for specific topics in the recording.

In our video, we discuss the purpose of AI in educational settings and the stigma surrounding it. Methods and conclusions of our research are debriefed as we talk about our personal experiences with note-taking. Watch to learn more about the AI we worked with!
My name is Trystan Abdill. I am a junior at Pacific University majoring in Psychology with a Bachelors in Science.
I was very apathetic towards AI when I first started Cognitive Psychology. It was foreign to me and the only context I had was that AI was typically used as a lazy shortcut for effort. However, I know now that some of the most proficient workers today utilize AI alongside their experience to create amazing things. Now I see AI as a tool to expand upon our own intelligence, not something that omits it.
Hey, my name is Olivia! I'm a junior at Pacific University, and I'm majoring in Psychology with plans to pursue nursing school after my graduation.
As someone who was raised by a tech-driven parent, I knew a lot more about the ins and outs of AI than your average person. I knew that AI wasn't going to rogue, but there was a little part of me that was still unsure. Throughout this term, I learned so much more about AI and how it relates to our own intelligence. Through that, I realized that the idea of AI taking over the world was utter nonsense, spread by people not properly educated on the matter. I am now more comfortable with this generation of AI, along with the next, and I think more people should embrace it, too.
Hi, my name is Katie and I am a junior at Pacific University. I am majoring in psychology and minoring in Gender and Sexuality Studies.
Throughout this semester I have learned a lot about AI, but the message that will stay with me the longest is that it how it can be used to support learning in educational settings.
Hi my name is Micah and I am a junior at Pacific University majoring in Psychology.
One thing I have learned about AI is how much I was assisted by it without even knowing. I hadn’t put any thought into whether or not I was using AI every day until I took this course and we dove into these topics. I thought I didn’t use AI but I was completely wrong. I was using it every day in fact, multiple times a day in a variety of situations and I hadn’t even realized it. It’s amazing how many forms AI takes on and how adaptable it is alongside human assistance.
