Fees and requirements

Participants pay regular tuition for the fall prep course and in lieu of tuition for winter travel, pay a program fee. The program fee depends on airfares and the number of people who participate; early sign-ups and deposits help keep fees down. The 2016 fee was $3100/person and we anticipate that the 2019 trip will be about $500 more. Once you notify school of you intent to participate in the winter course (by filing a form in the fall), your student account will be billed for the full trip cost; financial aid can be used to pay off this account. See scholarship information at: https://www.pacificu.edu/about-us/offices/international-programs/scholarships.

See more details about the payment and travel schedule on the timeline page.

The program fee includes:

  • roundtrip airfare to India (includes in-flight meals)
  • Pacific faculty instruction, support from Lady Doak College faculty and students, accompaniment by an Indian travel guide
  • all accommodation and meals in-country
  • all entry fees and ground transportation
  • support from the Pacific University Office of International Programs

The fee does NOT include:

  • passport and visa fees (approximately $150 plus postage for U.S. citizens)
  • immunizations and medication
  • food at airports and layovers
  • required purchase of Indian clothes ($25 and up, depending on your taste)
  • souvenirs and personal items (to your taste, but $50 would allow you to get plenty of things)
  • excess baggage charges (this could include a baggage fee for one domestic flight in the U.S.)

Requirements for participation:

  1. Students must consult with a healthcare provider and follow the CDC's recommendations for travel to India.
  2. Students must provide all necessary information to the International Programs office and obtain a passport and visa in a timely manner.
  3. Students must complete the "prep" class GSS 211 in fall; this is a two-credit course. The course time is arranged based on student availability. The winter course GSS 310 is an additional two credits.
