Story Time: I Can Name 50 Trees Today, read by Ms. Becca
Creative Exploration:
Journal Entry
Go outside and find your favorite tree. Draw an illustration of this tree in your journal. Have your adult write your words in your journal. What do you like about the tree? Why is it special?
Animal & Tree Observation
Choose a tree to observe. Watch the tree closely for several minutes from a distance. Do you see any signs of life on the tree? Birds? Squirrels? Move closely to the tree. Do you see any other signs of life? Other plants? Insects?
Numeracy: Apple Tree Song
Practice counting backwards while memorizing the song.
How many trees are on your street?
Draw a map of your street or property. Add the trees to your map. How many trees are there?
Literacy:

Create A & a using playdoh while reviewing the name and the sounds the letter can make
Movement:
Cosmic Kids Yoga Babs the Beaver
Sensory: Cornstarch Sensory
Add several cups of cornstarch to a sensory bin
Add kitchen tools such as a flour sifter, bowls & spoons

Creative Exploration:
Tree Science
Go outside and sit under a tree. Bring Tree Facts with you so you can talk about the parts of a tree. Look at other trees around you. Can you determine which trees are deciduous & which are evergreen?
Make a Parts of a Tree Poster color, cut, glue onto paper & label the part of a tree. (Will work best to glue branches on top of leaves).

Wednesday May 13
Story Time: Great Kapok Tree, read by Ms. Amy
Creative Exploration:
Build a Tree Challenge
Provide playdoh and toothpicks (or cut straws, popsicle sticks, or small sticks) and challenge your child to create a tree with roots, trunk, branches and leaves.
Stick Artwork
Gather small sticks & glue them onto cardboard, or sturdy paper. When dry, can add color with tempera paint, oil pastels or markers.

Numeracy: Tree Trunk Estimation
Choose a tree and estimate how long of a string it will take to wrap around the tree. Test it to see if your estimate was right!
Literacy:

Create C & c using your arms/hands while reviewing the name and sounds the letter makes
Movement: Leaf Dancing
Put on classical music and have your child pretend to be falling leaves.
Sensory: Oobleck Recipe
2 cups cornstarch, 1 cup water (or a 2:1 ratio), & couple drops of food coloring. Oobleck will last for a couple days before it needs to be thrown out. Easy clean-up:If used on a hard surface, wait until it dries and then sweeps easily!
Thursday May 14
Story Time: Ten Apples up on Top, read by Ms. Laurel
Creative Exploration: Tree Bark Rubbing
The bark is the tree’s protection. The bark expands and cracks as the tree grows.
Hold a piece of thin paper on the trunk of a tree. Rub the long side of a crayon on the paper to get the print of the bark texture.
Food from Trees
Make a fruit salad using fruit from trees such as peaches, apples, cherries, bananas, plums, and citrus fruits

Numeracy: 10 Apples up on Top Game
Find 10 objects that can be stacked. Challenge your child to stack all ten objects without them falling! (Ideas: real apples, plastic cups, blocks, recycled containers).
*Extension: Give your child 100 plastic cups and see if they can stack 10 stacks of 10 to get 100!

Trace D & d into a tray of flour while reviewing the name and sound the letter makes
Movement: Go for a squirrel walk. How many squirrels do you see on your walk?

Story Time: The Wish Tree, read by Ms. Laurel
Leaf Man, by Lois Elhert
Make a Leaf Man
Gather fresh leaves and small pieces of plant. Glue leaf to paper. Glue stems or other natural materials to add arms/legs. Use googly eyes &/or permanent marker to draw facial features.
Create a story about your leaf person or people!

Many household items were made from trees. How many are in your family room? Your house? (Wood furniture, books, picture frames, kitchen items, etc).
