Bird Watching Online
Check out Cornellās Live Cams & recordings of bird nests & feeding spots
Make Bird Watching Binoculars
-Use tape to connect two toilet paper tubes.
-Punch holes on the outside & tie yarn or string for the neck strap.
-Have your child decorate
-Use your binoculars on your bird watching walk tomorrow!
Numeracy:
Explore Measurement Using a Ruler!
Ā· Use a real ruler or print & cut out the printable ruler.
Ā· Teach your child how to use a ruler
Ā· Challenge them to measure objects around the house or outside.
o How long is this book?
o Can you find another object that is the same length?
Literacy:
Letter K
- Say the sound. Think of words that start with that sound.
Pick Two Activities:
- K is for Kite
- Press objects into playdoh to create the K shape
- Make the letter K with your body
Movement: Cosmic Yoga- Nelson the Pigeon
Sensory: Fill a bin or shallow tote or childrenās water table with bird seed.
Material: Plastic Easter Eggs and small objects

Story Time: Listen to the story, Are You My Mother? By P.D. Eastman, read by Ms. Amy
Go for a walk with Ms. Amy to see geese!
Art &/or Science:
Bird Identification and Data Collection Walk.
- Print Bird Watching & Data Collection Form
- Walk around your neighborhood or a nearby area that has trees.
- Write a tally mark every time you identify a bird.
- When you are done, add up the tally marks and the number for how many times you saw each bird.
- āWhat type of bird is most common in our neighborhood? Least common?ā āCan we put them in order from least common to most common?ā
Numeracy:
Hungry Bird Math
1. Print Hungry Bird Math template
2. Have your child cut out the squares.
3. Do we have 1-10?
Literacy:
Letter L
-Say the sound. Think of words that start with that sound.
Pick Two Activities:
-L is for Ladybug
-Hunt for the letter L in magazines/junk mail
-Make the letter L with your body
Movement:
Fly like a bird! Flap your wings while you count to 20! Or practice counting by 10ās.

Illustrate the book This Little Chick
1. Print out a copy of This Little Chick.
2. Read it like a book.
3. Have your child illustrate each page.
4. Read each page before they illustrate it and discuss what type of illustration would go well with the text.
5. This might take several days to complete.

Hungry Bird Math
Cut pieces of yarn for the hungry birds. The bird with the 1 will get 1 worm. The worm with the 2 will get two worms. Can you figure out how many worms to cut?

Letter M
-Say the sound. Think of words that start with that sound.
Pick Two Activities:
-M is for Moon
-Press objects into playdoh to create M shape
-Draw a M. Add snowy peaks at the top of the āmountains.ā

Go for a listening walk. How many different birds can you hear?

Thursday April 23
Story Time: Listen to the story, Thereās a Bird on Your Head! Written by Mo Willems, read by Ms. Amy

Make a Nest Art
See Spaghetti Noodle Nest Instructions
Make eggs to put in your nest. Choose from one of these options:
Ā· Find small rocks and paint them.
Ā· Make salt dough:
Recipe
o 1 cup flour
o Ā½ cup salt
o Ā½ cup water
Mix dry ingredients
Slowly add water until dough is easy to handle and smooth
Knead 10 minutes
Let rest 20 minutes
Use dough to make small eggs. Bake at 200 degrees until hard. Can be painted.
Numeracy:
Hungry Bird Math
1. Put the Nests in order 1-10
2. Use tweezers to pick up the āwormsā (yarn pieces) and feed the baby birds the correct number of worms.
Literacy:
Letter N
-Say the short vowel I sound (as in iguana). Think of words that start with that sound. I can also āsay its name,ā to make the hard vowel sound (as in I or ice). Think of words that start with this I sound.
Pick Two Activities:
-N is for Nest
-Make N using playdoh
-Use finger for write N into flour on a tray

A Treat for the Birdsā¦and Squirrels
String popcorn & cheerios and hang up outside on a sunny day
To String popcorn, a knitting needle can be used, which is bigger than a normal needle. Some popcorn will split in half.
To string cheerios, you can wrap a piece of tape around yarn or string can be used.

Letter O
-Say the short vowel sound (as in ostrich) Think of words that start with that sound.
