Monday April 13

Story Time: Listen to the story, Eating the Alphabet, Fruits & Vegetables from A to Z, written by Lois Ehlert, read by Ms. Laurel

Art/Science:
Track the Fruits & Vegetables You Eat!
1. Print the Eating the Alphabet document
2.Help your child write down each fruit and vegetable they eat this week!
3.How many are you eating each day? How many did you eat this week?

Melting Crayon Rock Art:
1. Find Smooth Rocks
2. Put rocks in oven at 200 degrees
3. Once warm, put rocks on something to protect table (tin foil)
4. Have your child gently press crayons (paper removed)
5. If rock is warm enough, crayon will melt onto rock
6. Air dry

Numeracy: Rain Cloud Math
1. Print Cloud Math Sheet
2. Have your child write the numbers 1-10 on the clouds; or model writing the numbers for them

Add raindrops to match the number by Using finger-tip dipped in blue paint or ink pad or draw

Literacy Work:
Letter F
-Say the sound. Think of words that start with that sound.

Pick Two Activities
- F is for Frog Coloring
- Press objects into playdoh to create the F shape
- Make the letter F with your body

Practice galloping. If you are an expert at galloping, practice skipping!

Sensory :
Fill a bin or shallow tote or children’s water table with water…or this can be done during bath time!

Material: Plastic Easter Eggs and small objects

Tuesday April 14

Story Time:
Listen to the story, The Gift of the Sun, written by Dianne Stewart, read by Ms. Laurel

Listen to the story, Curious George Discovers the Stars, read by Ms. Amy!

Art/Science: Illustrate a Book
1. Print “The Very Hungry Caterpillar”, (younger students) OR “The Alphabet Tree”, (older students).
2. Read the story as a book to your child.
3. Tell them they will be the illustrators for some (Hungry Caterpillar) or all (Alphabet Tree) of the pages.
4. Provide markers and crayons (or sharpie markers and water-color paints)
5. Before illustrating each page, read the page to your child and discuss what type of illustration would make sense on that page.
6. This project will likely take several days.

1. Print Eggs in the Nest Template
2. Have your child cut out the boxes containing the nests.
3. Do we have all 10?

Letter G
Say the sound.
- Think of words that start with that sound.

Pick Two Activities:
- G is for Grasshopper Coloring
- Hunt for the letter G in magazines/junk mail
- Make the letter G with your body

Movement:Go for a walk or bike ride

Wednesday April 15

Story Time:
Listen to the story, Tops & Bottoms, written by Janet Stevens, read by Ms. Laurel

Art/Science: Continue to illustrate your book.
Remember to add details to your illustrations!

Plant Rubbing- Create Colors from Plants:
1. Gather leaves and flower petals.
2. Rub onto white paper
3. Do they transfer their color onto your paper?
4. Which types of plants transfer their color best?
5. Wash hands afterwards!

Numeracy: Eggs in the Nest Game
1. Put the Nests in order 1-10
2. Have your child use small objects (beads, pebbles, dried beans) to put the correct amount of “eggs” in the nest

Literacy Work: Letter H
Say the sound.
- Think of words that start with that sound.

Pick Two Activities:
- H is for Home Coloring
- Press objects into playdoh to create H shape
- Use finger to draw H into rice on a tray

Practice jumping jacks. Count to 20 while doing jumping jacks. If you are an expert at counting to 20, start at 20 and count up to 40.

Thursday April 16

Story Time: Listen to the story, Growing Vegetable Soup, by Lois Ehlert, read by Ms. Laurel

Art/Science: Draw your own Vegetable Garden
If you could grow any fruit or vegetable in your garden, what would you grow?
Or
What will you grow this Spring & Summer in your garden?

Use art materials to draw or paint or create your own garden.

Numeracy: Neighborhood Animal Data Collection
· Print the Neighborhood Animal Observation Walk Form
· Go for a neighborhood walk & collect data on the types of animals you see. Write a tally mark each time you see a new animal
· When you get home, count the tally marks and write the number
· Which animal did you see the most of? Least of? Can you put them in order from smallest amount to largest amount?

Literacy Work: Letter I
Say the short vowel I sound (as in iguana).
- Think of words that start with that sound. I can also “say its name,” to make the hard vowel sound (as in I or ice). Think of words that start with this I sound.

Pick Two Activities:
- I is for Insect Coloring
- Make I using playdoh
- Use finger for write I into flour on a tray

Movement: Cosmic Yoga

Sensory : Water sensory & soil/mud play
First play in soil or mud with toy animals; then wash them clean in water/soap sensory setup

Material: Toy animals & soap and sponges

Friday April 17

Story Time: Listen to the story, Diary of a Worm, written by Doreen Cronin, read by Ms. Laurel

Art/Science: Go for a worm hunt!
· Worms come out after it rains, but can be found in damp soil anytime.
· Hold them gently.
· Replace them to an area with soil and plants.
· Where are you finding the most worms? Why?
· If you would like to study your worm for longer, make a habitat using a container with damp soil on the bottom and dead leaves and plants for them to eat on the top.
· Release your worm when you are done making observations.

Have your child build nests out of playdoh and roll eggs to put in their nests. How many eggs are in each nest?
