We are very excited to share this information with you and hope you will find it useful. We look forward to an opportunity to meet with you in person. Until then, we'd love to hear from you with any insights, suggestions or questions! ~Mary and Jenny
The purpose of this literacy institute is to provide speech-language pathologists (SLPs) and classroom teachers with evidence-based literacy approaches grounded in the language underpinnings of reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Participants will have opportunities to interact with the material in a learning community with each other and with two speech-language pathologists who specialize in language/literacy disorders and interventions.

We host in-person interactive events with speech-language pathologists, teachers, and other people interested in these topics. See "Upcoming Events" section below for scheduled events. Email Mary Mitchell at mary.mitchell@pacificu.edu if you are interested in learning more about scheduling interactive practice sessions or ongoing professional learning coaching experiences that incorporate Standards for Professional Learning.
Each module has an asynchronous "on-your-own" component.
The kickoff & overview module consists of videos and narrated slides that Jenny and Mary have developed. Complete these on your own and bring questions and thoughts you have about this content to the interactive practice day.
The on-your-own components for the remaining modules are the Reading 101 course modules on the Reading Rockets website. The structure for all the Reading Rockets modules is the same. For each topic, please review the introduction page, then complete the following: pretest, in depth, in practice, assignments, & posttest. Bring any questions or ah-ha thoughts to the interactive practice day. Note: These free self-paced Reading Rockets modules have been evaluated and included on the list of approved dyslexia trainings by the state of Oregon. See pages 5-6 in this document for more information; the last page of the document includes information about what you need to do if you'd like to pursue this certification.
