COVID-19 Precautions for Books

The PHS Library and Textbook room practice the according procedures, as recommended by the CDC:

  • Books are sanitized

  • Books are quarantined for 48 hours

  • Cleaning procedures are revised as the situation Covid-19 situation develops.

Library/Textbook Charges

When students check out books, it is important they check their library books and/or textbooks and report any damages. Students have two (2) weeks to report any damages so they will not be charged when books are returned. STUDENTS are responsible for the condition of their books.

All library books and textbooks are due to the PHS Library/Textbook room by their due date. Library books can be checked out three (3) weeks at a time; textbooks are due at the end of the semester/year. When books are returned, they are reviewed and assessed for damages (see the damage criteria and costs below).

This information is provided to ensure that policies regarding costs and book replacement is clear and available to all PHS students, staff, and parents. Damage fees are used to pay for the repair and/or replacement of books.

Policy StatementThe school library will not discriminate on the bases of age, gender, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, disability, language proficiency, social or economic status. Following ADA compliance, the school library will meet physical space requirements and offer assistive technologies and alternative formats of materials to meet all students needs. Librarians will also practice cultural competency by being aware of the unique characteristics of each patron and offering appropriate materials and services.
Guiding Principles1. The school library will offer accommodating technology for individuals that are hard of hearing, deaf, vision impaired, or otherwise have difficulty interfacing with the materials of the library. If these technologies are not present in the school library itself, other schools within the region will be contacted to provide the technology in question as quickly as possible.2. The school librarian will develop and maintain a diverse and inclusive collection that acknowledges and celebrates the diverse experiences of all learners in order to make all students feel represented by the materials and formats offered. 3. The school library will maintain and update its website on a regular basis. The website will contain links to academic databases, usage guides, and other digital resources that allow users to remotely utilize the library to the fullest extent. The website will comply with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 guidelines in order to create the best possible experience for users with diverse needs. 4. The school library will assist students, staff and teachers on a first come, first served basis to the extent possible without infringing on the needs of others.5. The school library will maintain channels with the school district, County of Education, and community resources in order to provide language and communications assistance when what is offered by the library is not sufficient.6. The school library shall provide ways for students, staff and teachers to give input on library services in order to add or modify learning spaces, activities, and materials that reflect diverse needs and experiences.
