Common App colleges want to make sure that application fees do not pose a barrier for any student who wishes to apply for admission. If you feel that your financial circumstances might qualify you for an application fee waiver, you can request a fee waiver in the Common App fee waiver section in the profile section.
Application deadlines and defintions
GPA: GPA is calculated as follows: A=4.0 B=3.0 C=2.0 D=1.0 (Pluses or minuses do not add or subtract points)
4.0 Scale GPA: Most colleges and schools report GPA on a 4.0 scale. The unweighted GPA scale is the most frequently used GPA scale. Basically, the highest GPA you can earn is a 4.0, which indicates an A average in all of your classes.
5.0 Scale GPA: The weighted 5.0 GPA scale takes into consideration the difficulty of your classes, while the unweighted 4.0 GPA doesn’t. The 5.0 GPA allows a higher GPA. The letter grade of an A in an AP (Advanced Placement) course is worth 5 points.
Cumulative GPA: The grade point average earned for all high school courses attempted (including Geometry H and world language in the 8th grade, if taken) computed by dividing the total number of points received from grades by the total number of courses taken.
Weighted GPA: Based on Scholastic GPA, all Honors and AP courses use a GPA calculation of 5.0 for a grade of A, 4.0 for a grade of B, and 3.0 for a grade of C. Grades of D and F do not earn extra weight. The Weighted GPA is used for rank by decile only.
Cal Grant GPA: A minimum 3.00 high school GPA, or a minimum 2.40 college GPA is required for Cal Grant A; a minimum 2.00 GPA is required for Cal Grant B. A state grant, this award doesn’t have to be repaid the way loans do. The funds are available to students pursuing undergraduate degrees or vocational or career training at California colleges and universities.
