Before a career in law enforcement, Scott enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving with the Marine Corps Security Force Company in Yorktown, Virginia, and later with the 1st Battalion, 7th Marines in 29 Palms, California.
Scott commenced his career in law enforcement in 1996 with the Norfolk Sheriff’s Office in Virginia before returning to California in 2002. In 2004, he joined the Oxnard Police Department.
Scott has held various roles throughout his career, including patrol officer, field training officer, firearms rangemaster, motorcycle/traffic officer, and vehicle collision investigator. In 2013, he was promoted to Senior Officer, serving as the Beat 14 Coordinator and a Senior Detective in the Family Protection Unit, responsible for investigating domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, and elder abuse crimes.
In 2017, Scott was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. He served as a Patrol Sergeant in the Field Services Bureau before being appointed as the supervisor of the Major Crimes Unit, overseeing homicide investigations. In 2020, he was selected as the supervisor of the Family Protection Unit before being appointed as an Internal Affairs Investigator. As an Internal Affairs Investigator, Scott investigated employee complaints, reviewed policies and procedures, and collaborated with the City Attorney’s Office in civil matters.
Scott holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice Management and is a graduate from the Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute (Class #512). Scott is one of the founding members of the Oxnard Police Department University, providing low-cost and free training to department members to enhance their careers.
