Police Officer Hiring Process

4.    Stay in good physical shape; running, push-ups, etc

Hiring process:

1.      Application

a.    City of Oxnard's website CLICK HERE

2.      Personal History Statement

a.    Be complete, detailed, accurate and truthful

         3.      Written test

a.    We will accept Pellet-B scores from other agencies within 1-year of test

b.    Submit Pellet-B to City of Oxnard Human Resources Department

c.    POST Pellet-B practice test 

d.    Another option to take the written exam is through the National Testing Network

  

         4.      Physical Agility Test

a.    Agility course

b.    165 lbs. dummy drag

c.    6’ solid fence

d.    500 yard run (2 minutes 15 seconds)

e.    15 pushups (1 minute)

5.      Sergeants Interview/ Commander

a.    9-10 basic law enforcement related questions

b.    Opportunity to get to know the applicant

c.    Professional appearance/ Business attire

6.      Polygraph

a.    Do not lie, not even a little bit

7.      Background Investigation

a.    Extensive background process, may take 4-6 weeks

8.      Chief’s Interview

a.    Interview with the Chief of Police and Assistant Chiefs

b.    Professional appearance/ Business attire 

c.    Get to know applicant, knowledge of law enforcement and OXPD

9.      Conditional job offer

a.    Job is assured if you pass Psychological Test and Medical Test

10.    Psychological Test

a.    5-hour written test

b.    Interview with Psychologist

11.    Medical Evaluation

a.    Complete physical evaluation 

12.  Start date

a.    Pre-academy – 4 weeks

b.    Police Academy – 6 months
