Investigative SERVICES BUREAU

The Investigative Services Bureau performs criminal investigative functions for the Police Department. This Bureau is comprised of several elements with investigators assigned to units consisting of the Major Crimes Investigations Unit, Family Protection Unit, Property Crimes Unit, Crime Reduction Unit, and the Drug Enforcement Unit. All efforts focus to promote the safety of the community and its residents.

The Investigative Services Bureau is responsible for the investigative follow-up on criminal and incident reports generated by the Patrol Division and to ensure that every report receives the proper level of investigation to bring closure to the victims it serves. These investigations consist of interviewing suspects, victims, and witnesses; gathering evidence; analyzing information for validity, reliability, and accuracy; and compiling a comprehensive and factual case for prosecution. The Investigative Services Bureau is supported by the Crime Reduction Unit (Crime Analysts), Crime Scene Investigations Unit, Body Worn Camera Unit and Court Services.

The Investigative Services Bureau’s operating budget for FY 2020-2021 is $9.2 million, or 15% of the Police Department’s $62 million budget.

The Investigative Services Bureau has twenty-three (23) detectives, an assistant police chief, a police commander, and five police sergeants. This section of the Police Department is also staffed with ten (10) civilian positions that provide essential support.
