FIELD SERVICES BUREAU

The Field Services Bureau is the largest of the Oxnard Police Department’s three operations bureaus - about sixty-five percent of the Department’s workforce is assigned to it. The Field Services Bureau is overseen by an assistant police chief. In addition, six police commanders and 22 sergeants manage and supervise the 227 sworn and civilian positions in the bureau.

The Field Services Bureau consists of four divisions:

The Patrol Division is the largest of the five. The Patrol Division deploys three shifts per day, seven days a week. Four commanders serve as watch commanders, and fifteen sergeants provide supervision of uniformed sworn and civilian personnel. Each commander is assigned to one of the city's four police districts. The Patrol Division also includes the School Resource Officer Unit, and the Neighborhood Policing Team.

The Patrol Support Division is comprised of the Traffic Unit, Booking Unit, Community Service Officers, and Animal Safety Unit. Traffic Service Assistants provide support with parking enforcement and traffic collision reporting. One commander and two sergeants oversee the sworn and civilian personnel.

The Special Operations Division is comprised of the Special Enforcement Unit/SWAT and the K-9 Unit. The Special Enforcement Unit works daily, and focuses efforts on serious offenders; when called upon they provide the SWAT function. Other collateral functions within the division include the Firearms Unit and Crisis Negotiations Team. One commander and two sergeants supervise the division's personnel.

The Emergency Communications Division provides police dispatch services for the City of Oxnard. It is also a public safety answering point for fire calls. A civilian manager oversees the division's operations.
