Department organization
The Oxnard Police Department is organized into three bureaus:
Field Services
Investigative Services
Administrative Services
The Field Services Bureau
is the largest of the three, and is overseen by an Assistant Chief. The Field Services Bureau includes the following:
Patrol Division (Patrol Services, School Resource Officers, Neighborhood Policing Team). Four Commanders are assigned to serve as watch commanders, providing oversight seven days a week.
Patrol Support Division (Traffic Unit, Booking, Community Service Officers, and Animal Safety). One Commander and two Sergeants are assigned to provide management and supervision.
Special Operations Division (Special Enforcement Unit / SWAT, K-9 Unit). One Commander and two sergeants are assigned.
Emergency Communications Division (also known as "dispatch"). One Communications Manager oversees five dispatch supervisors, nineteen dispatchers, and four call takers.
The Investigative Services Bureau
is overseen by an Assistant Chief. One Commander and six Sergeants oversee thirty-one detectives in the following assignments:
Violent Crimes Unit (VCU): investigates gang crimes, violent assaults, and graffiti.
Major Crimes Unit (MCU): investigates homicides.
Property Crimes Unit (PCU): investigates a variety of property crimes, including theft, fraud/forgery, burglary, and stolen vehicles.
Family Protection Unit (FPU) investigates domestic violence, sexual assault, missing persons, and child/elder abuse. The FPU also tracks sex offender registrations.
Crime Analysis Unit (CRU) manages information related to crime trends.
Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) handles narcotics and human trafficking investigations.
The Administrative Services Bureau
is also overseen by the Investigative Services Bureau Chief. It include the following:
Professional Standards Division (Internal Affairs, Hiring & Training).
Records and Property Division (Records, Word Processing, Property & Evidence).
