Commander Daniel Whitmer

Commander Daniel Whitmer is a distinguished law enforcement professional with over

two decades of dedicated service to the Oxnard Police Department. His career with the

department commenced in 2001 when he joined as a lateral hire after working for the

Ventura County Sheriff’s Department.

Dan's roots run deep within the Oxnard community, as he was raised here and proudly

graduated from Channel Islands High School. His academic achievements include a

Bachelor's Degree in Business Management, earned with Magna Cum Laude

distinction, from Kaplan University. Demonstrating his unwavering pursuit of excellence,

he furthered his education by obtaining a Master's Degree in Organizational Leadership,

once again graduating Magna Cum Laude, from California Coast University.

Throughout his career, Commander Whitmer has undertaken a wide array of pivotal

roles, showcasing his versatility and dedication to service. His professional journey

encompasses significant assignments such as Patrol, Special Enforcement Unit/SWAT,

District 2 Coordinator, and Violent Crimes Unit. His leadership qualities became

increasingly evident as he assumed roles including Patrol Sergeant, Field Training

Sergeant, Special Enforcement Unit Sergeant, and Internal Affairs Sergeant.

Commander Whitmer exemplifies community engagement and civic responsibility as a

valued member of the Kiwanis Club of Oxnard.

Currently entrusted with the pivotal role of overseeing the Special Operations Division

within the Field Services Bureau, Commander Whitmer's responsibilities extend to

several key units. He is responsible for the SWAT team, K9 Unit, Crisis Negotiations

Team, Force Options Unit, Defensive Tactics Unit, and the Range Unit, each

contributing to the department's mission of safeguarding the Oxnard community.
