The History Of New Year's Resolutions
The first people to make New Year's Resolutions were the Babylonians almost 4,000 years ago. There resolutions were not made in the beginning of January though, they were made in mid-March when the crops were planted. A new king was crowned at this time during a 12 day religous feast known as Akitu. The people reaffirmed their loyalty to the king and also made promises to the gods to pay their debts and return any objects that they had borrowed. This was the Babylonians of a New Years Resolution.
