Grade 6 Design
6th Grade Design Curriculum:
The sixth-grade design curriculum is designed to introduce students to Design within the MYP International Baccalaureate Program. Design challenges all students to apply practical and creative thinking skills to solve design problems.

Materials/Supplies
Design students in Grades 6 and 7 must have the following for design class:
Required:
Drawing writing materials (pen, pencil, eraser)
Coloring materials of choice (markers, crayons, colored pencils)
Folder for handouts
Scissors
Tape (preferably masking tape)
Elmers White Glue
*Design students should go green.*
Save cardboard boxes and recyclable materials to be used in the future for hands on projects. Keep a small bag at home of lightweight cardboard boxes (like cereal boxes)
Optional materials (not required, these materials can stay home and used only when needed)
Hot glue gun
Small paint set, either tempera paint or acrylic paint with basic colors (black, white, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple.
Paintbrushes
Construction paper

Quarterly grades are determined by the following categories:
1) Classwork (30%)
2) Design Journal (30%)
3) Projects (40%)
