Schedules

Lake View's start time is 8:30am for Mandated Distance Learning, the Hybrid Model, and for 100% In-Person Learning.

Hybrid Schedule

When we transition to the hybrid schedule, we will have the two Cohorts attending campus on different days. Cohort A (Last names A-L) will attend campus in-person on Monday and Tuesday mornings and receive Distance Learning instruction on Thursdays and Friday afternoons. Cohort B (Last names M-Z) will attend campus in-person on Thursday and Friday mornings and receive Distance Learning instruction on Monday and Tuesday afternoons. All students will receive Distance Learning on Wednesdays. The Hybrid Schedules can be found on our Lake View website.

100% In-Person Instruction

COVID-19 statistics in California and in Orange County continue to improve and the Ocean View School District will begin to transition elementary students to attend school 5 days a week in three different phases, starting Monday, March 29th. Research on schools reopening across our nation reveals there are relatively low risks and high benefits for education students in classrooms, especially in elementary grades. Children do not seem to be major sources of transmission - either to each other or adults, especially in the elementary grades. Health experts emphasize the importance of layering core mitigation strategies to decrease the risk of in-person transmission. We are confident that OVSD's layers of protection, including mask wearing, social distancing, hand hygiene, sanitization, ventilation, and health screenings, will keep students and staff healthy. Doing what is best for students, balancing health and safety with the instructional impact and benefits, will continue to guide our work.

100% In-Person Phased Transition by Grade Level:

  • Phase One - Monday, March 29th -- Kindergarten & 1st Grade

  • Phase Two - Monday, April 12th -- 2nd & 3rd Grade

  • Phase Three - Monday, April 19th -- 4th & 5th Grade

Elementary students attend school in-person five days a week and are kept in stable groups with fixed enrollment. Kindergarten students' dismissal is 12:15am and 1st through 5th grade students' dismissal is 2:20pm. Beginning May 3rd, a lunch period and one hour of additional instructional time will be added to all student schedules two days a week. More information regarding this enhancement will be forthcoming.

Arrival Procedure

During the COVID -19 pandemic, it is our goal to ensure we can provide a rigorous and engaging education for every child.

For our students choosing the In-Person Instructional Model, safety is one of our major requirements to provide for students, staff, and families coming onto campus. In order to make sure every person on the Lake View campus is safe and healthy, there will be several stations for temperature checks. Collecting temperature data is not public information and will not be recorded. Any person with a temperature of 100.4 or above will not be allowed to enter the school campus.

Daily temperature checks are given to assist school staff in identifying individuals who may be experiencing COVID like symptoms.

STEP 1 - SCREENING QUESTIONS (TK-5)

Students proceed to gates that have been identified by grade level (or determined by individual sites) when they arrive. A parent or guardian should remain until his/her child is cleared to enter school grounds. A staff member will point to posted screening questions and ask if any answers are yes.

  1. Are you currently experiencing any new or unexpected COVID-19 related symptoms?

  • Fever or feeling feverish (chills, sweating)

  • New cough

  • Difficulty Breathing

  • Sore throat

  • Muscle aches or body aches

  • Vomiting or diarrhea

  • New loss of taste or smell

  1. Is anyone in your household presenting new or unexpected COVID-19 related symptoms?

  2. Have you recently had close contact (more than 15 minutes within six feet) with someone who is ill or presenting COVID- 19 related symptoms?

If the student or parent/guardian responds with a positive response, the on site Health Technician will be notified for further evaluation. If all responses are negative, the student will proceed to Step 2.

STEP 2 - TEMPERATURE SCREENING

A staff member will take the students temperature using a no touch thermometer. Students that have a temperature of 100.4 or higher will be asked to wait off campus and have the temperature taken again 10-15 minutes later.

Late students must be accompanied by a parent/guardian to the office to complete Step 1 & Step 2 in the office.

Dismissal Procedure

STEP 1 - RELEASING STUDENTS FROM CLASS (TK-5)

Teachers walk students from the classroom using directional markers to the same gate students entered at the beginning of the day. Students will be released to a parent/guardian or allowed to walk home if appropriate.

Parents are requested to use social distancing guidelines outside the gates while waiting for students.

Students leaving by car will be brought to the carline and assisted by a staff member to reunite with their parent/guardian.

Students leaving by bus will be accompanied to the bus by staff.

Social distancing will be observed at all dismissal points.

STEP 2 - LATE PICK UPS

Students not picked up on time will be brought to a designated area by the office for late pick ups. The parent/guardian will be required to go to the office to pick up their student.
