IT3 Technology Specialist (JCPS)
Dr. Don Bacon is a Technology Specialist for JCPS, supporting middle and high schools. Before joining the Technology Division, Don worked at Iroquois High School for 13 years, teaching Social Studies, Mechanical Engineering, and Computer Science, and serving as the School Technology Coordinator. He also founded the school's Dungeons & Dragons club in 2015. In 2023, Don defended his dissertation on social cognitive factors influencing students' pursuit of STEM after high school. Passionate about making learning engaging and fun through gaming, Don is excited to share his enthusiasm at this event.
Shawnee High School (JCPS)
Mr. Brewer has taught in JCPS, Louisville, KY, since 2012, including 8 years in an alternative school and 5 years at The Academy @ Shawnee. He has presented on gamification, learning through play, student-directed research, and AI ethics at venues like GenCon and KY education conferences. Highlights include a DnD Monster Theory Creative Writing course and a James Baldwin-focused Dual Credit Junior Writing course with JCTC.
Although John was not able to make our play session on March 15, we thank him for his promotion of the event and his support of TTRPGs in education!
Echo Trail Middle School (JCPS)
Jamie Gibbs is a 7th Grade Science teacher at Echo Trail Middle School with over 14 years of experience in the education field. Jamie has her Bachelor of Science from Murray with a Minor in Theater and her Master of Education from the University of Louisville. She has played various roleplaying games since 8th grade and loves using her theater background to create funny and engaging roleplay sessions with her friends.
Western STEM Magnet High School (JCPS)
Sterling has a BA in Political Science (University of North Florida) and a MA in Political Science (University of Louisville). A teacher for over 20 years, Sterling began as an adjunct at UofL and IUS, then as a substitute teacher for JCPS. For the past 8 years, he has been teaching high school English, Social Studies, and Theatre.
Sterling set up and ran a high school D&D Club at Breathitt County High School in Eastern Kentucky, and now does the same at Western High School here in Louisville. This year, his D&D Club has become a daily Flex class and next year, he will be teaching "Creative Writing Through Dungeons & Dragons."
When Sterling's dad bought him the D&D red box Basic Set from Toys R Us in 1983, he became a Dungeon Master and hasn't stopped playing since! He currently DMs one campaign at school, one at home, one online via Roll20, and plays in another.
Sterling lives with his wife (a brilliant artist), their dog (a muppet), and their cat (high maintenance) in Old Louisville. He is a private pilot, a history nerd, and a writer, and also enjoys sailing, hiking, and board games.
North Oldham Middle School (Oldham County)
Tyler Lega is a history teacher at North Oldham Middle School. He is in his 7th year of teaching where he has had experience in both Indianapolis, Chicago, and now the greater Louisville area. Tyler is a passionate Cross Country and Track coach, alumnus of Transylvania University, and proud League of Legends fan. He began his Dungeons and Dragons career in middle school when his 7th grade science teacher introduced him to the game. He has been hooked since both playing as a character and hosting as a dungeon master. Tyler works hard to create a high level of excitement and engagement in his classroom and looks forward to bringing the same energy to this event!
Mt. Washington Middle School (Bullitt County)
Mr. Osborne is finishing up his 19th year as a social studies educator, with a career spanning from teaching 6th & 7th grade at West Carter Middle School in Olive Hill, KY, to his current role as a 7th-8th grade US History teacher at Mount Washington Middle School. In 2008, he began teaching at Bullitt East High School, where he also sponsored the Sci-Fi Club—a student-led group that celebrated all things nerdy, from playing D&D to trading Magic: The Gathering cards. TTRPGs have been a cornerstone of his life since his college days, where he first discovered his tribe and embraced #NerdPride!
NerdLouisville
Jonathon Myhre, also known as Mr. Dragonbane, is a professional Gamemaster and TTRPG content creator from Louisville, KY. As President of Nerd Louisville, Office Bard of Iron Fortress America, and Chief Gamemaster for The Lurking Fears, he dedicates himself to promoting the world of tabletop role-playing games. In 2024, he ran over 600 hours of games, 424 of those hours were running Dragonbane RPG from Free League Publishing, across conventions, online, and local game shops. Jonathon's passion is to fully immerse himself in the TTRPG world, striving to make it his lifelong career.
NerdLouisville's Chris Tatum was our substitute DM for our March 15 event. We are so grateful for his willingness to help at the eleventh hour!
Although John was ultimately not able to DM, we thank him for his preplanning for the adventure scenario, his promotion of the event, and his support of TTRPGs in education!
