This starter topic will be a discussion with Mrs. O and Ms. DeRusso about students’ senior year expectations, goals, and setting up our course. We are in uncharted territory this fall and need to take the time to acknowledge things are different and how we can embrace this opportunity and make a plan.
Adulting 101 is a boot camp to seniors find time, get organized, develop a personal schedule and work on skills needed to be successful adults. They will work with an instructor from SUNY Morrisville to refine their study skills, organization, and develop important communication skills.
Sometimes we jump into things without really thinking beyond the first step or the cool idea. In this unit seniors will begin outlining and creating their post graduate plan working with our School Counselor, Jamie DeRusso. Whether they plan to go to college, enter the workforce, or serve in our nation’s military there are many options to consider and paths they can take to reach their goals. Seniors will complete lessons and activities in Xello to help them to define their interests and skills then connect them to a profession.
Seniors will work with author of, Fox on Food and freelance writer, Deanna Fox (OV Class of 2004) to learn basic cooking skills and eat what they make. Seniors will demonstrate mastery of learned skills by competing in various individual and team cooking challenges. The final assessment for this topic will be a community dinner for their families. Planned Challenges include:

Senior year is stressful even without a Pandemic. In this unit seniors will investigate a variety of ways to manage their stress load. Topics will include:
Discussing nutrition, cooking, and eating with Bite into Nutrition’s registered dietician, Rebecca Bekka (OV Class of 2005).
Investigating a variety of exercise programs and regimens including weight training, circuits, running, Zumba, Pound with personal trainers.
Learning the benefits of Essential Oils with Health Coach, Sue Castilla and making a diffuser blend to destress.
Yoga and basic massage from Elyse Roalef (OV Class of 2009). Nothing crazy but some basic techniques to help us all relax!

No, the aliens aren’t attacking but seniors need to be ready to declare their independence. This unit will cover a variety of topics to get them moving out of the house and on their own! Topics will include:

Basic First Aid and CPR with Mrs. Morse, RN
Car Care 101 with Scott Will (Class of 2002)
Being an active member of the community means getting involved. Seniors will develop their skills and actions with a class project connected to their Government course as well as an individual project of their choice to complete their community service hours. Class projects will be connected with the 12th grade social studies classes and Individual projects will be developed based on personal interest and ideas to help our local community.
