The power of youth voice.

Outside the Lens celebrates the power of youth voices to shape the future of our community. Voice Out, an innovative youth media arts exhibition, provides a special opportunity for San Diego+Tijuana youth to express their unique point of view on the subject of PLACE, through digital artworks.

Voice Out celebrates the voices and stories of young artists from San Diego and Tijuana. 

Over 100 artworks ranging from photography to illustration and mixed media were on display, and attendees enjoyed a live DJ set, panel discussion and awards ceremony.

Megan Groth (she / her)

Megan Groth is an architect, urbanist and the author of the new book 'Places We Love: San Diego Tijuana'. She received her Master's of Architecture from the University of Washington and a Master's of City Design from the London School of Economics. Megan has taught professional practice at Woodbury University in San Diego and Burbank, and design studios at Oxford Brooks University in the UK. She is a San Diego native and a founding member of the Transborder Association of Architectural Education.

Eyal Brower (he / him)

Eyal is a 17-year-old student at High Tech High School and a member of Outside the Lens’ Youth Council. He loves to travel the world and capture it through his camera. His especially enjoys capturing architecture, street photography and portraits. His favorite camera is his Pentax Spotmatic 35mm and his Sony A7ii. One day, he hopes to travel the world as an F1 photographer.

Liliana Hueso (she / they / ella)

Liliana Hueso is a skilled photographer, community organizer, and educator, she proudly identifies as an artivist. Boasting a robust background of over two decades in non-profit organizations, Liliana has traversed the realms of education, youth engagement, art, advocacy, and community empowerment. She is passionate about the arts and firmly committed to youth empowerment and forging intentionally inclusive spaces. Liliana’s objective is to create opportunities for those who have been systematically denied access, enabling them to fully express themselves and celebrate their uniqueness. She is a California native who has resided on the West Coast of the USA and Mexico.
