The multi-part plan to make OFAS a Sustainable Sanctuary & Community Resource
This multi-part plan maps out how Outsider's Farm & Sanctuary can become a financially sustainable animal sanctuary.
Intake is closed and funding is always needed, especially for an organization housing over 400 animals and providing assistance to 500 - 1000 additional animals in need each year through our Walt's World community program.
Pay off remaining shelter debt, including the Big Pigs Barn, Volunteer Shed, & the Upson Herd Barn that replaced the dilapidated smaller houses in preparation for Winter 2025 . Approximately $30,000 in shed debt & high interest loans (farm vehicle) remains to be paid off.
Our Home Free & $60,000 in 60 Days Fundraisers aim to pay off these high interest lease to own sheds early, clearing up our monthly overhead costs and avoiding costly interest fees.
FALL 2025 UPDATES:
In the last year we made tremendous progress toward long-term sustainability by paying off $42,000 in building and shed debt. Eliminating these payments has freed up approximately $2000 per month in overhead funds that can now go directly toward food, medical care, and ongoing animal welfare.
Obtaining more recurring monthly donations by appealing to our supporter's desire to have personal connections with individual pigs and other animal residents. Monthly sponsorships include tiered incentives like quarterly animal updates, videos/photos
FALL 2025 UPDATES:
We are incredibly grateful to our growing community of monthly sponsors who help keep the sanctuary running.
As of September 2025, we have welcomed 13 net new sponsors in 2025, collectively funding 60% of our monthly food bill. This consistent support is crucial in ensuring our residents never go hungry, regardless of fundraising fluctuations.
By expanding the fencing into our wooded areas, we will increase daily enrichment for the pigs, as well as provide much needed shaded areas in the hot GA summers.
Expanding their areas also creates space/room for new gravel pathways to be created throughout the current barn yards. These gravel pathways will be fenced off and wide enough for safe delivery of daily food/water, safe future guest tours, and tractor access to remote areas.
FALL 2025 UPDATES:
In Spring 2025, we invested $27,000 into repairing, upgrading, and expanding fencing across the property, enhancing resident safety and allowing tractor access to more areas for efficient care and maintenance. While gravel remains outside our current budget, we’ve utilized free and low-cost wood chips from community partners to help combat erosion and improve mud management, creating safer footpaths and vehicle access during the rainy seasons. We continue to apply for grants and seek sponsorship for gravel project funding.
Creating a designated visitor parking area and visitor center/sheltered area, with plumbing and electricity allows the sanctuary to offer paid tours, onsite fundraising events, and offer educational programs (paid and unpaid).
The current space is not feasible for visitors to safely park and tour the property.
FALL 2025 UPDATES:
We are still seeking sponsorship for our planned Parking Lot Improvement Project, estimated at $5,000. This will provide a safer and more accessible space for visitors, volunteers, and community events, an important step toward improving our public engagement capacity. Currently guests must line the driveway very close to animal areas and can often cause quite a traffic jam for a minimal amount of vehicles.
With the guest parking and gravel road/walking paths in place, we will create engaging community on-site activities, for a donation, to enrich our animals' socialization and also educate the community about our pigs, and other farm animals, veganism, compassion, and animal rescue.
Example: Teach a Pig to Read
FALL 2025 UPDATES:
As of October 2025, both our Executive Director and Board Chair are enrolled in certification courses in Humane Education and Nonprofit Marketing. These programs will help strengthen our educational outreach, deepen community connections, and expand awareness of the sanctuary’s mission to new supporters and volunteers.
We have established an onsite vet clinic with our trusted veterinarian. While this initiate is primarily focused on providing free/low-cost vet care for our community in need, it is also a path to potential revenue and is already covering part of our own vet expenses through strategic scheduling and in-house lab work.
FALL 2025 UPDATES:
In July 2025, Outsiders Farm & Sanctuary launched its first public low-cost veterinary clinic day through Walt’s World Community Outreach. By September 25, we had provided affordable veterinary care to 95 pets belonging to local families in need. As funding allows, we plan to expand these clinic days to both serve more animals and generate income to support sanctuary operations.
Medical Emergencies are always a huge concern and set back to monthly fundraising. Often times, a trip to the emergency vet or prolonged stay at UGA Veterinary Teaching Hospital can eat away thousands of sanctuary dollars that could have been used to pay for monthly feed bills and basic farm utilities.
Building an Emergency Medical Fund will give the sanctuary that lifeline when emergencies pop up. These funds will sit in a savings account, gaining interest, and only be used for true emergency needs.
FALL 2025 UPDATES:
As part of our $60K in 60 Days campaign, we’ve designated $10,000 to establish a dedicated Emergency Medical Fund. In addition to the $60K campaign, we are also hosting a Virtual 5K in November in honor of Walt to also raise funds for medical care. With over 400 residents, medical needs are constant, from routine checkups to life-saving interventions. In October 2025 alone, medical costs reached $10,000. This fund will allow us to stabilize veterinary expenses and prevent emergency cases from derailing our operating budget.
Continuing our outreach to find corporate sponsors and major donors that align with our mission, we will approach businesses and our past and potential major donors for donation matches and infrastructure project support.
By making a commitment to applying to more grants each month and enlisting the help of volunteer grant writers, we hope to receive financial support via grants and foundation donations for specific programs and projects. These grants will alleviate the need to fundraiser and/or take away funds from our core monthly needs.
FALL 2025 UPDATES:
Outsiders Farm & Sanctuary actively seeks both private and foundation funding to sustain our programs. We continue to send sponsorship packets and grant applications monthly, pursuing every opportunity to strengthen our impact, improve infrastructure, and secure the future of our residents and outreach programs
