The Center Student Advisory Council

Oakland Unified School District

In the OUSD Student Advisory Council, students can actively engage in shaping both their school food experience and the educational programming happening through The Center at OUSD.

The Center at OUSD is the new Nutrition Services Central Kitchen, Education Center, and Instructional Farm & Garden.

Highlights from last year's Student Advisory Council!

In spring 2021, the inaugural SAC met over Zoom to learn about the OUSD food system, give input into menu items via taste tests, and envision what they want to see in the OUSD food system.

Purpose

What will students do as part of the SAC this year?

Student Advisory Council members will:

  • Give feedback on programs about the environment, food, and gardens (for example, California Thursdays and Harvest of the Month);

  • Taste test new meals and products and decide whether they should be served in schools;

  • Recommend what students want to do and learn related to school food, the environment, food, and gardens;

  • Talk about nutrition education, food culture, and health with peers and OUSD staff;

  • Influence the brand development for The Center;
