The Calvin Simmons Library seeks to support student learning, individually and in an in-class setting by providing access to a catalog of books and materials that have been co-curated by teachers, students, and library staff (Buchanan, 2019) to best reflect the needs of the community. CSL staff work closely with teachers to meaningfully integrate content, technology, and information literacies to improve student outcomes (Everhart, 2013) and support best teaching practices, and work closely with students to build a library program that reflects their needs, interests and curiosities.
At the intersection of two diverse schools, the Calvin Simmons Library will engage in programming and intentional community building that create a bridge between the students, staff and families of the school communities it serves.
Ms. Solomon has been the teacher librarian in the Calvin Simmons Library since its reopening in the Fall of 2017. Prior to being a school librarian she taught middle school ELA at Life Academy and at Claremont Middle School.
Her favorite books are the Harry Potter series, graphic novels that feature tough but endearing female leads (like Nimona and Ms. Marvel), and books that can best be described as romantic comedies (like Eleanor & Park).
Ms. Solomon identifies as a Hufflepuff, which means she especially likes the part of her job where she gets to help people, so feel free to email or come visit if you need assistance!
