Community Partners: Bay Area Community Resources aka BACR is the acting after school provider for the Ralph J. Bunche School Community. As a lead partner BACR will provide Academic Support, Credit Recovery, Support Groups, Work Based Learning Opportunities and Sports and Art Enrichments.
Academics: BACR will provide Credit Recovery opportunities supporting students working through APEX Online courses to help make up credits and get students closer to graduation. Along with Credit Recovery, The After School Program will provide a space for all students to develop academic skills, complete work and receive support from peers and staff alike.
Social Emotional Learning (SEL): Staff will provide cohort support groups for Young Women and Young Men. These groups will focus on community building, self inquiry and strategies to navigate life. Groups will also include a leadership component to further develop student voice and become an action oriented part of the school community.
Work Based Learning: BACR will partner with local organizations like New Door Ventures and The Crucible to give students access to job readiness programs and experiential learning opportunities. The goal is to expose students to potential trades and career pathways while providing foundational skills to support job/career best practices.
ART/Media Enrichments: With the partnership with Today's Future Sounds we will offer a music production program twice a week along with having our resident Art Instructor providing holistic art opportunities for students to share their stories through art projects.
Sports: The After School Program will provide team sports opportunities that focuses on skill development, healthy physical practices, and community building while cultivating an inclusive fun experience for all. The two team sports that will be offered are Basketball and Soccer.
Are you 16-24 years old? Are you interested in earning up to $2,500 in 14 weeks? The September cohort is currently open to young people that are interested. Go to newdoor.org/apply. For more information, click the flyer below.
EBAC's Youth Empowerment Service (YES) program provides individual and family therapeutic counseling and intensive case management for youth in Oakland who seek to graduate, find employment, and achieve their life goals but who are challenged by the emotional and physical health effects of trauma caused by exposure to family and community violence, sexual abuse, neglect, poverty, racial and cultural marginalization, and institutional racism. Together with these youth, EBAC works to keep them in school, link them to employment, support the development of caring relationships with positive adults and peers, and reduce delinquency involvement.
To inquire about participating yourself or to refer a student for these services, click here. For more information about how YES services work, click here.
