Today’s history-social science teachers are constantly balancing multiple demands. How can we build our students’ capacity to ask important questions and seek out information from multiple perspectives? How can we help students understand challenging, nuanced content? What content is most important to teach? How can we support the development of our students’ critical thinking skills? How can we help our students read, write, and deliberate? And how can our classes prepare students to take informed action in their communities today and tomorrow?
This site contains resources to help teachers answer these questions. We’ve divided those resources into four key areas, which reflect the instructional shifts outlined in the 2016 California History-Social Science framework.
Teachers are constantly engaged in learning about and prioritizing content for their courses.
History-social science should not only support students to understand past issues, but also to apply their knowledge to the present.
