Welcome to Culinary Arts
This course involves both theory and actual hands-on cokining. Students will learn introductory culinary skills that are used in the industry. Special attention will be focused on knife skills and 6 major cooking techniques. Students are expected to take notes, participate in lectures and demonstrations and be prepared to cook. All students will be expected to clean their stations and other items in the kitchen including washing dishes, mopping and sweeping floors and leaving the kitchen the way they found it. Students will also learn culinary vocabulary and professionalism in the kitchen All students will have the opportunity to take the ServSafe food handler's course. This course teaches students how to handle food, hygiene in a safe way to cut down on foodborne illnesses. These skills serve as a foundation to professional, trained, and educated employees. It is a school-to-career path for high school students interested in the restaurant and foodservice industry.
