It was against the law for anyone of Japanese heritage to live in Oakland, San Francisco, or anywhere in California, or the United States after May 30th 1942.
There were 10 Japanese internment camps in the United States. Most were located in remote areas.
It was often too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter.
They were scattered through the west and some were in Arkansas. Most were in isolated areas such as deserts and swamps.
In California there were 2 camps, Tule Lake and Manzanar.
Most of the people had to live in horse stalls that were roughly cleaned until the camps were ready. Once they moved to the camps, the people had to make the schools and some of the homes.
