You can see how bad the damage is and the difference in towns. The Earthquake was said to be from 7.7 -8.3 on the ritcher scale.
The Earthquake was followed by a devastating fire. It was the largest earthquake in years. The places that it hit the hardest were San Francisco and Oakland though it affected the whole bay area including Alameda and San Leandro.
Oakland is close to other places in the bay area which were affected a lot by the earthquake as well.
