S2 into S3 Students

Students in S2 currently study a variety of subjects from across all curricular areas. Students have been studying these courses for the two years and have the opportunity to specialise in one subject from each curricular area, they will also study an additional subject from a curriculum area of their choosing.

At the end of S3, students will continue seven of their nine subjects into National Qualifications in S4.

If a student wishes to choose a college course they will need to continue with six of their subjects from BGE.

S3 into S4 Students

Students in S3 currently study nine subjects from a range of curricular areas. Students have been studying these courses for the three years and have built the foundations that will support them as they transition to Senior Phase courses in S4.

At the end of S3, we encourage students to continue seven of their nine subjects into National Qualifications.

If a student wishes to choose a college course they will need to continue with six of their subjects from BGE.

Where a student wishes to change a subject, this should be discussed with relevant Curriculum Leaders.

S4/5 into S5/6 Students

Moving into S5/6, students will have some prior attainment in these subjects and we would encourage them to continue their progression through the levels. Please refer to the recommended level information available in the formal report.

At the end of S4/5, students will choose five subjects to study as National Qualifications the following year.

If a student wishes to choose a college course this will count as one of their subjects.

Students applying for Foundation Apprenticeships will have to commit to this for two years or, if they opt for the short duration model (1 year), this will be chosen as two subjects in senior phase.
