S1 Pupils Shine at Robot Olympics: Creativity, Coding, and Teamwork on Full Display
Over the course of three exciting days, S1 pupils took part in our Robot Olympics, a project designed to test their problem-solving, teamwork, and digital skills. This event was made possible thanks to a generous grant awarded to the Computing Science department through the Big Bang Schools Bursary, which provided pupils with access to new resources and equipment for the challenge.
From the very first session, the room was buzzing with excitement as pupils got to work building robots to navigate a set course.
Working in small teams, they tested different builds and quickly got creative with their designs. Once the robots were assembled, the focus shifted to programming. Pupils experimented with movement blocks, tweaked their code, and collaborated to solve any unexpected issues.
Throughout all sessions, the pupils were fantastic. They made significant progress in both building and coding, while also developing confidence, communication, and problem-solving skills.
A huge well done to everyone involved! The Robot Olympics was a brilliant showcase of what pupils can achieve when they collaborate and embrace a challenge. We are incredibly grateful to the Big Bang Schools Bursary for making this event possible.
Lego Programming
During our weekly LEGO Robotics classes, pupils learn coding and mechanical engineering, while developing their computational thinking, using scientific models and designiing prototypes. To motivate our young people to stay involved and keep learning, we use a wide range of techniques such as LEGO building, Robotics competitions, Stop Motion Animation, Photography and Film making. Pupils will start by using simple visual programming blocks provided by LEGO, and within few terms progress to learning and using new programming languages that enable them to develop games for their Robots.
Our club focus on supporting them to think, understand and analyse each step of their Robots Building and Coding.
The third block of the Lego Robotics Club will commence of Wednesday 07 May at 12.45pm. All S1 and S2 pupil are welcome to come along.
Lego Robotics Club aims to develop science and technology skills in a fun and engaging way.
We will look at programming Lego Wedo, Spike and Mindstorm sets.
