Welcome to Dalreoch!

Dalreoch Primary and ELCC

In Dalreoch Primary School and Early Learning and Childcare Centre we have created a nurturing and supportive community for our children, parents and staff. One in which we all thrive, work hard together and have fun!

Our school motto is Be positive and always try new challenges’. In the ELCC our motto is 'Nurture, Learn and Grow'. We offer an educational experience which values each child as an individual with special talents. We educate the whole child and nurture our children to ensure that they are confident in their own abilities, that they take pride in and responsibility for their own community and that they are are able to make effective contributions to society.

Latest news from Dalreoch Campus

Good luck Primary 7!

In June 2023 we celebrated the achievements of our wonderful P7 children as they moved onto high school.  Parents, carers, staff and children all gathered to celebrate their successes over their seven years at Dalreoch! Well done to all our prizewinners!  Thanks go to Oli Higham, our Chaplain, and our Parent Council for arranging a balloon arch and end of term treats. Well done also to our school Glee Club for providing such a warm welcome as our guests arrived. Good luck to all our P7 leavers!

Scottish Ballet Workshops

Well done to our P6 pupils, who recently took part in a series of workshops with Scottish Ballet.  These workshops helped children to learn about diversity, acceptance and friendship. This culminated in a fabulous performance for friends in P5 and P7. We're P6, and it's Safe to be Me!

Bookbug Family Sessions

We recently celebrated our first ever Bookbug family session, attended by children from the ELCC and their family members.  This was a fun and engaging chance to learn through songs and rhymes, led by Megan with the help of a very special guest. Bookbug sessions will take place monthly in the school library.

Dalreoch School Library!

Our brand new school library was formally opened on the 9th of February by special guest, children's author Lindsay Littleson.  Our younger pupils also celebrated this event with our friend, Bookbug! The new library will be a wonderful resource for our school community, thanks to the hard work of our Reading Leaders!

Nativity and Christmas Sing-a-Long

Thanks to all the parents and carers who joined us at our Nativity and Christmas Sing-a-Long! We had a great time singing along and getting into the festive spirit. We hope you enjoy looking through the photos below.

Christmas Lunch!

Children in our school and ELCC enjoyed a delicious Christmas lunch. A great time was had by all, socialising with our friends and enjoying a meal together.  Thanks to our catering team for such a delicious festive meal!

Christmas at Dalreoch!

We have lots planned in the coming weeks to celebrate the magical Christmas season at Dalreoch Primary and ELCC! See the most recent newsletter below for further details.

School and ELCC will close on Friday the 23rd of December at 2.30pm. All the staff at Dalreoch would like to wish our children and families a happy and restful holiday. Merry Christmas!

A glowing report for our Early Learning and Childcare Centre!

We were delighted to welcome Education Convener Claire Steel to our ELCC recently, to celebrate our recent Care Inspectorate inspectorate report. In an unannounced inspection in June our ELCC was rated Very Good in all aspects of provision. We are so proud of the success of the whole ELCC community!

Maths Ambassadors visit Primary 7!

Primary 7 enjoyed a visit from Dumbarton Academy Maths Ambassadors Lucy, Jack and Jack! The ambassadors inspired us with their passion for all things maths!

Welcome to Primary 1!

This August we have been delighted to welcome our new P1 class to Dalreoch. All the children in P1 have been exploring our school and forest. They have been enthusiastic and positive in their approach to learning. Well done P1!

Developing links in our community - Working with Knowetop

We continue to develop links with Alternatives, who are based at Knowetop, the site of the old Knowetop farm.  Children at most stages in the primary school have experienced learning outdoors using this valuable resource.  Here are some pictures of P1 enjoying a Spring Scavenger Hunt at Knowetop.

Fairtrade Fortnight

Well done to our Fairtrade Business Group, who have worked hard this session to develop our awareness of sustainability and Fair Trade.  For Fairtrade Fortnight P6/7 organised a competition to design a T-shirt which promotes the principles of Fairtrade.  Well done to Isla, whose winning design was made into a t-shirt by local company, Gem's T-shirts!

We are Word Aware!

Across our school and ELCC we are working hard to develop our vocabulary through exciting learning activities!  Our ELCC children have recently used Word Aware approaches to explore the text The Disgusting Sandwich! We explored disgusting spaghetti in our water tray, and made sandwiches using locusts, crickets and mealworms. DISGUSTING!

British Science Week 2022

Our primary classes have been having lots of fun exploring scientific concepts for British Science Week 2022! In Primary 6/7 pupils made ice cream in a bag, learning that salt lowers the temperature of ice water and exploring how the ingredients changed. P3/4 investigated what happens to water when you add oil and food colouring. They then added a catalyst and created beautiful lava lamps.  Children were able to make predictions and ask questions, developing their own hypotheses for the experiments.

P3/4 children also enjoyed listening to 'Stop Dropping Litter', learning about what happens to plastic over time, and the importance of keeping our outdoor environments plastic free. They are now planning a litter pick, inspired by their learning.

Children's Mental Health Week

As part of Children's Mental Health Week our Chatterbooks reading club completed the 'Reading Challenge'. We know that taking time out to unwind with a book is a great way to help our mind and body relax.
