SESSION A

A1 and B1: AIMS Assessment Training (TK)

DESCRIPTION: Note this is a 2 hour session. If you sign up for this session, please do not sign up for a Session B.

This session will provide a overview of the Frog Street AIMS assessments used by TK teachers. Any teacher new to using the program or wanting a refresher would benefit from attending. 

A2: Reach for Reading with Nat Geo (K-5)

DESCRIPTION: In this session we will be examining the curriculum, walking through a lesson, and working on a hands-on activity. 

A3: PowerTeacher Pro Gradebook (TK-5)

PRESENTER: Geoff Lilley

DESCRIPTION: This session focuses on utilization of PowerTeacher Pro gradebook to record final grades, benchmark progress, behavior notes and information, and communicate with families. 

A4: Understanding  and Administering STAR CBM with Fidelity (K-5)

PRESENTER: Dee Johnson

DESCRIPTION: The Renaissance Learning trainer will take you through the 1-minute timed assessments, Curriculum-Based Measurement (CBMs), so teachers can use CBMs to find out how students are progressing in basic academic domains such as literacy and numeracy. 

A5: ROOMS - Getting Started(TK-5)

PRESENTER: Thrillshare (Virtual),  FACILITATOR: Katherine Johnson

DESCRIPTION: Rooms, by Apptegy, a classroom communication tool for teachers and administrators, is a two-way communication and messaging tool integrated directly with our school app. Rooms simplifies the digital classroom while bringing all communications into one place. It enables teachers to communicate directly with parents and students (including translation) to manage classroom assignments and materials, track student behavior, and more.


This introductory session will provide users with an overview of how to get started using Rooms including: setting up your classes, messaging families and/or students, syncing with Google Classroom, and providing an overview of the additional features.

A6 and B6: TWIG (K-2)

DESCRIPTION: Note this is a 2 hour session. If you sign up for this session, please do not sign up for a Session B.

In this session we will discuss the partnership between NGSS and TWIG, the alignment of ELA and TWIG, introduce TWIG tools and TWIG reporter, explore the TWIG curriculum at the module, driving question and lesson levels, and provide planning tips and ideas.

A8: Strategies to De-escalate a Crisis In or Out of the Classroom (TK-8)

PRESENTER: Ashley Hayes

DESCRIPTION: This training will review an escalation cycle and provide strategies from the Crisis Prevention Institute that can both prevent a crisis or de-escalate a crisis. The strategies can be applied to both classrooms and other situations in which an escalation may occur. 

A9: Whole-Child Design Workshops  (TK-8)

PRESENTER: Gretchen Livesey

DESCRIPTION: Highly interactive session about the science of learning and development and whole-child design. Participants will explore new information, strategies, and tools, and apply what they learn to their roles and context. Throughout the series, participants will be prompted to take action to create positive learning experiences that promote students thriving. 

A10: Creating a Trauma-Informed Classroom (TK-8)

PRESENTER: Alana Lindsay

DESCRIPTION:   Supporting teachers to recognize the impact trauma and toxic stress can have on student learning and behavior, the impact trauma can have on their own well-being as a classroom teacher, and to explore ways to support their students affected by trauma. Teachers will leave with tangible items to implement with their students the next day including coping skills, strategies and practices to improve instruction. 

A11: Building Positive Teacher-Student Relationships (TK-8)

DESCRIPTION: Helping staff see other strategies to build a positive relationship with students in the classroom environment, to create Connections, Respect and a Safe Environment for students and staff. 

A12: Ellevation: Supporting EL Students (TK-8)

PRESENTER: Sandra Espinoza

DESCRIPTION: Leverage components of student data in Ellevation to build a greater understanding of ELLs and enhance instruction through modules. *Participants should login to Ellevation through Classlink prior to training session to make sure they have access to the Ellevation platform.

DESCRIPTION: Join the Tech Department to refine your skills with Classlink and Chromebooks. Learn tips and tricks you will be able to implement immediately to enhance your technology toolbox! 

A14: Got Stress? Get Some Mindfulness!  (TK-8)

PRESENTER: JG Larochette

DESCRIPTION: Join JG Larochette, Founder and Director of Mindful Life Project, in a session where you will learn how stress and trauma affect the brain and science-proven mindfulness techniques that improve mental and emotional health to “rewire the brain." Participants will come out of this session with both knowledge on how to practice mindfulness, as well as trauma-informed ways to provide students social emotional learning best practices. 

A15: Syllables for Success (3-8)

PRESENTER: Jennifer Renner/CCCOE

DESCRIPTION: Come and learn how to identify the 6 syllable types and how they can apply in your daily practices and support students struggling to read longer words. You will also learn the most useful syllable division principles. 

A16: Strategies & Activities for Academic Vocabulary (6-8)

PRESENTER: Namsey Bridgeford

DESCRIPTION: Participants will explore the benefits of teaching academic vocabulary, and distinguish which words are the most valuable to teach. Three new tools/activities will be introduced and participants will have a chance to practice using them. We will discuss how to adjust vocabulary instruction to match the needs of ELLs and students at various grade levels. Take-home resources for selecting words and teaching words will be provided. 

A17: PBIS (Panthers Being Incredible Students) (6-8)

PRESENTER: Jennifer Hays and Tracey Morse

DESCRIPTION: PBIS Rewards is a digital platform that allows our staff members to recognize any student, anywhere for meeting behavior expectations. These behavior expectations are defined by the school, then communicated and taught. The points earned through that recognition may be used to purchase items from the school’s PBIS store, school-wide PBIS rewards, raffles and events. The outcome is teachers will leave with an understanding of what PBIS is and how it works at the middle school level. 

A18: Leveraging Math Routines to Build "Thinking Classrooms" (TK-8) 

PRESENTER: Christen Northrup

DESCRIPTION:  “Students, as it turns out, want to think – and think deeply” (Peter Liljedahl). As educators we do our best every day to foster environments for our students to learn and thrive. For us, the challenge lies in the varying levels of student understanding, the lack of time for individual or small group supports, the minimal amount of time we have to plan rich lessons, the list goes on. Let’s explore ways to face these challenges head on by building a “thinking classroom”. In this session, we will use grade level specific content to explore ideas to support differentiation and UDL, problem solving, formative assessment, and student voice and collaboration. You will walk away with resources and strategies to implement right away! 

SESSION B

B3: PBIS - Inspiring Students to Become Leaders (TK-5)

PRESENTER: Jeff Almendarez

DESCRIPTION:  The workshop will dive into the current PBIS practices at Summer Lake and how to implement, maintain, and celebrate similar practices at other elementary sites. The goal of the workshop is to empower teachers by providing them tools and resources that will benefit their classroom. 


B4: The Reading Brain (TK-5)

PRESENTER: Michelle Kerwin/CCCOE

DESCRIPTION:  Join us to gain a solid understanding of the research behind how humans learn to read. We will dig into Scarborough's Reading Rope and explore how executive functions impact learning to read. 


B5: Understanding and Administering STAR CBM with Fidelity (K-5)

PRESENTER: Dee Johnson

DESCRIPTION: After completing today’s session, participants will be able to: understand the basics of Star CBM and their relationship to Star CAT, distinguish between Star CAT and Star CBM, and identify when to use each. They will also be able to administer all formats of Star CBM and available accommodations, with fidelity.

B7: Lexia: Core 5(TK-5)

PRESENTER: Karie Shuler (virtual), FACILITATOR: Katherine Johnson

DESCRIPTION: In this session, basic Core 5 use will be briefly covered, with the main focus being on utilization of reports, data, and additional resources to enhance individual and small group instruction. 


B8: Interactive Reading Activities  (TK-8) 

PRESENTER: Namsey Bridgeford

DESCRIPTION:  We will work with a variety of tools that may be used to support students' decoding and comprehension at the different stages of reading development. Discussions will center on how to use the activities for Tier 1 instruction and as part of the Tier 2 interventions delivered in the classroom. Participants will leave with plans and materials that can be used in their small group instruction, as well as ideas for whole group activities. 


B9: Creating a Trauma-Informed Classroom (TK-8) 

PRESENTER: Alana Lindsay

DESCRIPTION:   Supporting teachers to recognize the impact trauma and toxic stress can have on student learning and behavior, the impact trauma can have on their own well-being as a classroom teacher, and to explore ways to support their students affected by trauma. Teachers will leave with tangible items to implement with their students the next day including coping skills, strategies and practices to improve instruction.  


B10: Evidence-Based Classroom Management Strategies (TK-8)

PRESENTER: Ashley Hays

DESCRIPTION:  This presentation will review evidence-based classroom management strategies that should enable 85% or more of our students to demonstrate success, the ability to learn, and the ability to behave in our classrooms. 


B11: Whole-Child Design Workshops  (TK-8, Open to all)

PRESENTER: Gretchen Livesey

DESCRIPTION: Highly interactive session about the science of learning and development and whole-child design. Participants will explore new information, strategies, and tools, and apply what they learn to their roles and context. Throughout the series, participants will be prompted to take action to create positive learning experiences that promote student thriving.

DESCRIPTION:  Chromebook chaos? Projector problems? Sound snafus? Wonky Wi-Fi? Join the Tech Department to learn simple technology troubleshooting strategies to help your days go by without a glitch! 


PRESENTER: Dr. Angela Walker

DESCRIPTION:  Experience what it is like to have a disability in a school setting and how you can support students. Teachers will walk away with strategies to support our students in general education.


B15: Tobacco, Vaping & Teens: What Educators Need to Know (3-8)

PRESENTER: Emily Justice/TUPE

DESCRIPTION:  Participants will have the opportunity to learn about and discuss the changing landscape of tobacco use among young people, including the latest on vaping. There will be time to discuss intersections with other issues such as cannabis use and mental health, what we are doing to address these issues, strategies to support our students, resources available regarding substance use and mental health, and Q&A.


B16: Ellevation Math (3-8)

PRESENTER: Alexis Hyde

DESCRIPTION: This is an educator’s first introduction to Ellevation Math and how it can be used with their students. During the session participants will learn the value of Ellevation Math and how it benefits students. They will walk away knowing how, when, and where to use it throughout the instructional cycle, and will be able to assign primers to their classes. *Participants should login to Ellevation through Classlink prior to training session to make sure they have access to the Ellevation platform. 


B17: PowerTeacher Pro Gradebook (6-8)

DESCRIPTION: For users who are more experienced with PowerTeacher Pro, this session will focus on utilization of the grade book to record standards and benchmark progress, as well as to report out on student progress.

DESCRIPTION: Enhanced comprehension of the reporting procedure is imperative in promoting the safety of our students.
