Make sure to clearly communicate expectations and logistics with your students. Here's a list of questions that students are seeking answers to.
How will attendance be documented in our course (synchronous participation, assignment submitted by a deadine, another type of participation)?
Since moving online, you'll want to base attendance off some form of weekly contact with the student. This contact could be attendance at a zoom session, completing an assignment by the due date, or a check-in email. See the Attendance Policy for remote learning posted on this site.
Has the syllabus changed?
Please communicate all change to your syllabus clearly.
How will we be graded?
Please communicate any changes to your projects and grading to students as you change your syllabus.
What are the new expectations moving forward for the class? e.g. Assignments, coursework, projects we were previously working on?
Please be flexible but you do want to communicate these expectations to your students.
How will projects be submitted?
Please explain which platform you would like to receive assignments: email, the Nest, O-space, g-drive
Will we be meeting individually or in groups on Zoom?
Your choice, make sure to communicate the details to students.
Will we have a community online meeting place to communicate such as Slack or Discord?
We are recommending using O-Space or the Nest as your central communication hub. However, if you want to use additional tools and are familiar with them, this is your choice.
What accommodations will be available for students who lack the resources or technology to continue moving forward with the courses? Or who live in different time zones?
Communication has been sent to student emails from our Information Technology Office. They can also contact helpdesk@otis.edu.
If students are having trouble accessing or completing course content - they can also fill out this online form and those of us in support will reach out to help your student directly.
If students are in time zones that make it difficult to participate in Zoom sessions, please provide alternate pathways for them to complete the course.
Will our class be happening in our normal class time?
We do encourage you to keep class time during regularly scheduled hours to avoid possible conflicts with other classes. However, this may need to be adjusted if have students working in different time-zones.
Are we going into a pass/fail system? What grading system are we going to be having?
