Beginning Activity
Quick oral warm-up: students answer questions like “What do you usually do on weekends?”
Write common present tense uses on the board (e.g., habits, general truths).
Development Activity
Watch JenniferESL’s video “3 Surprising Patterns with the Present Tense.” Students take notes on the three patterns and examples she gives.
Pair work: students receive example cards and identify which present tense pattern is used.
Writing activity: complete dialogues using the three patterns.
Write a short piece (4–5 sentences) that demonstrates your chosen pattern:
– A brief joke or funny scenario
– A casual dialogue
– An imaginary event scheduled in the future
– A dramatic exaggeration of an annoying habit (great for “always + -ing” 😄) Share with a partner and explain why you picked that pattern.
Collect and review a few examples
Discuss which pattern was used.
