He aha te mea nui o te ao? He tangata! He tangata! He tangata!
What is the most important thing in the world? It is people! It is people! It is people!
Nau mai, Haeri mai
Welcome to the Otaki College, Year 13 HISTORY website. Here you will find useful information, resources and links to help you in your course of study.
The objectives of the course are to develop in students the ability to imaginatively enter into the events of the past, to understand themselves as New Zealanders, to understand other peoples, distant in time and place and to use the skills underlying historical inquiry and presentation. They will develop a critical approach to historical sources by exposing them to the varying interpretations and debates that result from historical study (Historiography).
Students will explore human differences i.e. how people think, what values they have that influence their thoughts and opinions, and the shared experiences and ideologies that in turn shape those values, social issues, conflicting points of view, social change, and about being engaged citizens who themselves work to bring about social improvement. Students will ponder questions such as, how do societies work? How does culture and context influence behaviour? Why do people subscribe to different ideologies? How do individuals, communities, and societies both respond to and attempt to bring about change?
Me nga hiahia pai!
Best wishes with your study.
