Power to the People is the cross-curricular theme for a collaborative project our Year 10s will undertake in Term 4. It combines English, Science and Social Sciences knowledge and skills, and will allow each group of students to pursue an area of passion they are interested in over the eight weeks. The learning goal is for students to investigate an issue related to sustainable energy in the Ōtaki community and present their understanding of the issue to an audience.
Students have been learning about electricity, sustainability, and energy use and conservation in their Science classes. They will develop their group collaboration skills, research skills, and project management skills in their Social Studies classes while using their English communication skills to reflect on their learning, and to share and present their final project. Students will present their projects at a Showcase Day, which will be on Wednesday 6 December in week 9 and will be open to peers, whanau and the community.
Throughout all these classes and the project students will be developing their knowledge and skills in the NPDL Deep Learning competencies of Critical Thinking, Citizenship, Communication, Collaboration, and Culture.
Below on this page you will find the Hapara Workspace site where students access their learning resources and submit work in progress. On other pages on this site you will find links to students' learning blogs where they will post learning reflections and work in progress and learn more about NPDL - New Pedagogies for Deep Learning.
