What is an Integrated

Co-Teaching Classroom?

"Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much." Helen Keller

An Integrated Co-Teaching Classroom (ICT) is a classroom that includes students with all ability levels. This type of classroom is supported by a General Education Teacher, Special Education Teacher and Teaching Assistants. Together, this group of professionals is responsible for making learning accessible to each and every student in the classroom.

In our first grade classroom, Miss Rice is the General Education Teacher and Mrs. Tesoriero is the Special Education Teacher. Mrs. Batchelor and Mrs. Ketcham are our Teaching Assistants. Mrs. Spicer is another adult in our classroom this year. She is a nurse who helps one of our students throughout the day. Each of us has a unique role within the classroom, yet we each share the same goal, to help all students LOVE learning.

We teach our students from the very first day of school that different kids need different things. Some students may need to stand instead of sit when learning. Other students may need text enlarged or activities simplified to focus on the big idea. Fair isn’t everyone getting the same thing. Fair is everyone getting what they need in order to be successful.

We hope you recognize what a wonderful opportunity it is for your student to learn with not just one teacher, but a team of teachers!
