Mon - Fri, SUNY Oswego students can take the Green Shuttle (Osw 11) for free to Rice Creek! It's a short, 11-minute ride from the Marano Campus Center bus loop. For all others, Rice Creek is located at 193 Thompson Road in Oswego.
Most of our needs are for outdoor projects, including:
Weeding and mulching in our garden beds and tree nursery
Light trail maintenance, including clipping back encroaching vegetation and assisting our groundskeeper with trail projects
Transplanting tree seedlings in our tree nursery
Trail inspections & litter cleanups
Other opportunities are available for our regular volunteers, depending on the person's skill set and interests.
We supply tools and basic personal protective equipment such as work gloves and insect-repellent wipes. You should prepare by:
Dress for the weather and tick protection. Layers are helpful. Bring more than you think you need!
Wear boots if you have them. If not, we can supply boots.
Bring water and sunscreen, if desired.
We encourage you to reference our field safety policy or even complete our field safety training before your volunteer session.
