Why read in the summer??
Reading is an important skill and predictor of academic success because all other subjects hinge on the ability to take in information through reading. Data shows that students who read twenty minutes each day have higher standardized test scores than those who read just five minutes per day! Reading is important and just because school is out shouldn’t mean that reading stops.

Access these resources from any computer, tablet, or smartphone using your school google/email address.
The Vermont Schools Shared Digital Collection on SORA is an online collection of ebooks and audiobooks built just for schools. It is accessed through the Sora website or app.
HES & WES both choose "Hardwick Elementary School" and login using your school email account.
Epic! includes ebooks, read-to-me books, and audiobooks by grade level. It's free for students to use with their class code from a teacher (email last year's teacher if you don't already know your code), or use Ms. Baranyay's class code (arn1797), then you can access any books you'd like.
Comics Plus is a digital collection of hundreds, maybe thousands, of graphic novels for every age and reading level. Log in with your school Google account and explore what's available. They even have a Better Together set of books hand picked for your summer enjoyment!
Summer Reading at Your Public Library
Visit your public library - the Jeudevine Memorial Library in downtown Hardwick or the Woodbury Community Library next to the Elementary School in Woodbury, are both planning fun summer reading activities.

Grades 4-6: Get a Head Start on Next Year's Golden Dome Award Reading!
Students entering grades 4-6, if you're interested in getting a head start on Vermont's 2023-2024 Golden Dome Book Award nominees, both town libraries should have a good collection to start you off.
REMEMBER - You will need to read at least 5 of the 25 books if you want to participate in voting and fun activities planned for next spring, so now is a great time to start! All 25 of the titles are available on any device from Sora, our free eBook and audiobook hub!! (Please note - All OSUESD schools choose Hardwick Elementary as your school and use your school email address.)
