As a class we will read and discuss at least two related texts, one literature and one informational
We will read at least 30-60 minutes a day from our self-selected books
We will write everyday, for a variety of purposes and in a variety of modes
We will take at least TWO pieces of writing to publication
We will apply a variety of 6th grade Level Standards to both reading and writing

Reading
Reading closely to determine what the text says explicitly and to make logical inferences from it; cite specific textual evidence when writing or speaking to support conclusions drawn from the text.
Interpret words and phrases as they are used in a text, including determining technical, connotative, and figurative meanings, and analyze how specific word choices shape meaning or tone.
Read and comprehend complex literacy and informational texts independently and proficiently.
Writing
Writing routinely over extended time frames ( time for research, reflection, and revision) and shorter time frames ( a single setting or a day or two) for a range of tasks, purpose, and audiences.
Speaking & Listening
Prepare for participate effectively in a range of conversations and collaborations with diverse partners, building on others' ideas and expressing their own clearly and persuasively .
Language
Determine or clarify the meaning of unknown and multiple meaning words and phrases by using context clues [and] analyzing meaningful word parts.
