Mrs. Tomkins' 4th Graders ROCK!
June Lake, California, June 2019
My name is Jill Tomkins and I am a happy to be a 4th grade teacher at Nichols Elementary School. I am originally from Oceanside and come from a family of educators. I received my Bachelor of Arts from Chico State University in 2000 and a multiple subject credential from California State University, San Marcos in 2001.
I began my teaching career in 2001 in Oceanside, where I taught a 4/5-combination class at Pacifica Elementary. I taught 5th grade for five years at Nichols Elementary and 4th grade for one year. The world was calling and I moved to Beijing, China, where I taught 4th grade at the International School of Beijing from 2007 – 2009. I moved back to San Diego and taught 4th grade at Del Mar Pines School, a small private school in Del Mar, California from 2009 - 2012. For the past 6 years I have taught 4th grade (for 2 years) and kindergarten (for 4 years) at Santa Margarita Elementary on Camp Pendleton. I am thrilled to be back at Nichols Elementary to teach 4th grade as I enter my 19th year of teaching.
My husband Mike and I have 2 daughters: 3 year old Addy and 16 month old Emily. We also have a pound mutt named Ollie and a rescue kitty, Willy.
Outside the classroom, I enjoy spending time with my family, reading, camping, cooking, bike rides, walking and running, shopping, and traveling. We love going to the harbor in our VW Westy and hanging out. If you see me around town, make sure you say hi!
