About my teaching

I truly believe in a holistic approach to students’ education. If a student’s physical and emotional needs are met, they can achieve greater intellectual understanding and overcome challenges. I have taken it upon myself to gain a greater understanding of the effects of respect and community building in a classroom in regards to learning. I know no two students are the same, but teaching to the whole child and instilling timeless virtues in my class is a cornerstone for me in building an inclusive classroom. I believe given the right environment that children are smart by nature, energetic, and curious. I don’t believe by giving them treats or Dojo Points, as a bribe to learn. In my class I’d like to make learning an inviting experience where students are actively engaged and not bored, threatened, or humiliated. I think that if we foster this children will naturally learn, but they must also have the discipline and mastery of certain skills to surpass the barriers from institutions that bias the lecture and testing model of learning.
